hi guys i'm looking for someone with a 69 z28 with 302 emblems to give me a dimension from the rear area of the the hood (cowl area) to the first pin or number. i have a drawing in my assembly manual but it doesn't give a reference to where they are on the hood. my car just got sprayed with tinted primer and i have to drill the holes before i can continue. my z28 came stock with a flat hood which i am painting also just in case i change my mind later. oh by the way the emblem template kits sold through rick's do not include the 302 templates. my luck thanks

I had to do mine from the assembly manual also and the "0" reference line is the face of the firewall. I laid mine out with drafting tape on each fender and then closed the hood to finish the layout with a string. Use the assembly manual dimensions only as a reference, use your actual 302 emblems to locate the holes. These enblems vary slightly. Check and double check your layout before drilling. As they say "measure twice, cut once". Good luck.

I measured mine and from the farthest point back on the top of the cowl hood to the edge of the "2" on the left side, and the "3" on the right side, is 11-1/8". Hope this helps.

Kurts right, mine are 11 3/16" back (close enough to the same).I was able to get all my emblem nuts on.For what its worth, heres what I did.I broke off that little line up prong off the back of the 302 emblem.I didnt feel they were necessary, and it left less chance for error.I poked the emblem studs through a piece of paper, traced the emblem, cut out the traced emblem.Used that as a pattern.Taped it on the hood where it went and drilled right through the poked holes. I did all my fender emblems like that too. They look perfect.I know what you mean about that assembly manual. They give you dimensions off an unknown starting point.Unknown to me anyway.
