Is there supposed to be a cover over the exposed subframe mounts near the firewall (see attached pic)? If so, any idea where I can get them? I've not been able to find these thru the normal suppliers.

No cover, thats exactly how its supposed to be ;)

If you don't like the hole there, You might try some thin rubber cut to size and held on with some adhesive, or even some wire staples through pre-drilled holes at the top to make a flap.
