Hi guys.
I'm mocking up my front brakes for JL8 spec and have run into an issue. The repro brackets available on the market are drilled wrong. It appears the caliper ends up being about 0.050 further out from center. So the outside of the pad hangs out in the air instead of riding on rotor. screwball huh? This is what you will get if you buy at JL8 brakes online.
There maybe a silver lining though. If I can find a true 12" rotor I think it would work perfect!
Anyone know of a way to find if there is a rotor that will swap for the C3 rotor?
Anyone else actually build JL8 brakes from the repro brackets before me?

Does JL8 call for a 12" rotor?

The JL8 package normally uses the C3 rotors that are 11.75" :)

An older post I noticed but here goes.
I came across the same problem just today..
I ended up grinding the caliper mounting bracket holes oval radially. It didn't take much about few mm. (few 16th's I quess).
Besides the fact that the holes were drilled wrong the mounting surface was olso tilted. It was not parallel with the disc surface and I had to grind it a bit.
I ended with the pads just on the outer edge of the disc and the parts relatively parallel. I assume that some misalignment is ok.
How did you solve your problem Poncho?

Hey, thanks for the note.
I haven't done anything to my set. I have a 1 year old at home and she put the car stuff on the shelf for now. A close friend of mine did exactly as you describe to his set, though. He also had to grind the surface flat.
When I decide, I may actually buy a set of aftermarket 12" rotors with an aluminum center. I don't like the fit of the vette rotors over the drum hub, it's still a bit loose leaving the strain on the wheel studs? Was your fit ok?
hmmmm

Take your time with the car! My sister had two boys and I think I already like them more than my car. I'm teaching the 3year old to weld and grind, she doesn't like it that much though :D
The discs fit ok on the hubs. I have 12mm studs and drilled the discs with 12,5mm holes. The fit is really tight with no slack, although all (well mostly all, there is some friction between the disc and hub when the lug nuts are tight) braking force is channeled throught the studs. This is ok, most manufacturers do this on modern cars every day.
Aftermarket 12" rotors would have been a good choice if i already had not got the 11.75 disc at hand...

Fwiw, my 1988 13" 'Vette front rotors fit fine after I had my hubs turned down, but the guy did just barely kiss the center's chamfer at the corner.
And so did my 1989, 11.75" Camaro rear rotors on my 12-bolt.
Studs fit fine.
