Am re-doing a 68 now and am to the point of installing weatherstriping. I have the weatherstrip that goes on the roof rail. I have an article in the winter edition of Camaro Performers mag that gives good info on doing this job. It makes mention of a caulking strip kit and replacement stainless screws to use when installing the moulding that the roof rail weatherstriping will attatch to. Does anyone know where to get this caulk strip kit and replacement s.s. screws? I have checked with various suppliers and can not find these items. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For the chalking strip, use the same size stuff that you use on the heater box on the firewall. As for replacing the screws, take one of the originals and go to Lowes or any other hardware store and look for a stainless replacement. Most harware stores will have what you are looking for.

Some guys have talked of using the rubber strip that is used when installing a camper top to a truck bed. I looked at those, but decided it was too thick. Some guys have also talked of foam weatherstrip for storm doors etc. I think that is too soft, and not waterproof. Just my opinion
My original strip was in OK condiditon, so I used 3M strip caulk, a tar based caulk that comes in a box. You pull off strips of bead as you need them. Available at automotive paint supply stores. I kneaded it into thin strips and stuck it over the original rubber caulk strip.

As for the screws, I don't know why you couldn't reuse the originals. I see no need for ss, as they should never get wet. I used short chrome interior screws with the finish trim washers. I would have used my original screws, but I couldn't find them. (I have since found them in two labeled bags....so my labeling and bagging is good, but my storage system could use some work!)
