Hi, I see this subject has been covered alot, and that there is a lot of info on the site, but one short question.
I have factory power disks in front and drum s in rear. If I wanted to pursue the rear disk brakes, are there donor parts available to make the swap instead of having to use aftermarket setups. I'm not a total stickler on originality, but would want them to be pretty much correct. and is it outragously expensive to find and buy the parts from Novas, or whatever else is available.
Just trying to save myself some time before I research the hell out of it. Knew you guys would know.
Thanks all,
RJ

You can install LS1 brakes off a 98-02 Camaro/Firebird. All it takes is a small adaptor/shim that you can purchase from BRP Hotrods. Check for seller brewer68 on ebay. He has a website too.

You can also buy "factory style" kits pretty inexpensively from a lot of sources. I got my kit from The Right Stuff, and I've seen kits on eBay in the $300 range.

There are probably @10~20 different donor car conversions that you can follow to put stock set-ups, over-the-counter parts and upgraded systems conversions together from.
Did you review all the information in the "Stickies" at the top of the Brake/Suspension forum page?

This is one link to an active thread that cover Rear Conversions - http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75836
Also follow the links within the thread to people's pages with photos and interchange with part number information - VERY good information in those links that will allow you to do the change-over with minimum fuss and cost

The aftermarket 'kits' are also a popular option - but, they have some drawbacks and I've never done one that didn't require me having to search out more parts and make changes to get exactly the system and function I was after - which I could have done with donor parts in the first place ...

Thanks guys, I didn't read all that is out there, because I wasn't even sure it was something I thought I could afford.
I know I don't want aftermarket stuff that doesn't look even remotely original.
If you go with the donor cars, will that provide parts that are the same as originally installed on 69 Camaro? Or are they parts that were never used on camaros?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but what I'm trying to do is find parts that, once on my 69, would look like they had always been there. Is that possible, if you know what I mean?
Not intending to tell anyone that my car had original 4 wheel disks, I just want "original looking" stuff. Don't want somebody to walk up to my car, take a glance, and say, "It's nice that you have 4-wheel disks, but those parts were never used on 69 Camaros"
Thanks again.

RJ, I followed the instructions that were posted here and I used the rear disc parts from a 79-81 trans am/79 Seville caliper brackets. It works great even the e-brake works. It all bolted up fine to an 8.5 10bolt posi from a 73 Nova. And I have to say it looks like the General put it there.

icpop,
how much would you say you had to spend on your conversion

RJ, I enjoy the hunting gathering of parts to do my projects. I have not talleyed the cost, everything less the caliper brackets was available rebuilt at my local autoparts store. It does save you $ if you can provide cores. I used rightstuff detailing for new steel brake lines. I may have spent more than one of the kits but I am like you where I like to use General used parts that look like they belong there.

icpop,
Thanks man, I appreciate the info. I have a 12 bolt rear, but I imagine much would be the same as far as the install. Do you have a parts list you used?
