I'm looking to restore a 69 camaro and a guy in town has a rear spoiler for sale he says its for a 69 but I'm not sure. The numbers on the inside in the middle are 3916633 and below that TP53967. There is also a number towards one end that is 40-2258-0B. It also has a little plate on each end held on by a phillips head screw. Can someone please tell me if this is an original gm part or a repo and if its for a 69. Thanks for your responses Steve

Not sure about the part #, but my original 69 spoiler has the two sheetmetal pieces on the bottomside. I would just find a good pic of one in a magazine, if it looks like it, it probably is...only problem is that the 67-68 look almost just like the 69 spoiler, just a little bit shorter, but it would still work, some early 69's had the short spoiler.

Thanks Gambitt it is shorter than the ones I've seen in pics. I think I like the full length look better. He wants $50 bucks for it and a couple of the studs have pulled out. I think I'm going to wait for a correct one.

No problem, I did some more checking, it definitely isn't a 69 spoiler, the part #
on them is: 3949798
If you find a good spoiler with some of the studs pulled out or stripped, don't let it stop you from buying it, 90% either have some stud holes drilled wrong or pulled out...it's easily fixed.

I made my own replacement studs by going to Home Depot. They have everything!

I may be wrong but I think the earlier 69 spoilers were left overs from 67-68 and were used on 69s. I believe the 69 are an inch wider than the 7 and 8s. So if Im right that is why you see some 69s with an inch shorter spoiler on the back.?

Thanks for the responses I think i'm going to wait until I find the wider one. My car is an SS (x55) but didn't come with one, I know the trunk lid is not going to stay up when I do install a spolier. Is there anybody who sells the stiff spring rods to hold up the trunk lid??????

Not that I know of, you only need one...thats all the factory used, one
large spring and one the same size as
all the rest. You will just have to
look around at swap meets, or find a
car sitting around that originally had
a spoiler. You might just try increasing
the tension on the ones you have by pulling
them down and dropping them in the second notch...worth a try.
