Hi I own a 98 Chevy Camaro, V6, it runs fine and everything, however i am having some trouble lately. I have had a couple of instances where the fuel was very close to being empty. After the second time, when my fuel was very close to being empty, i filled it up & starting coming home. I hit a small road bump and the check gauges light came up & stayed for a few seconds about 10-15 seconds and went off. I ignored this and kept driving, i have had the check gauge light come up again, recently and it stayed for about a minute or 2, during the time i didnt have any acceleration or even when i hit the accelerator, it didnt rev up much. I also noticed that the temperature guage went very close to the red line.

I continued driving & then somehow the check engine light got away & the temperature guage started coming down.

What should i do now ? Should i take it to a mechanic and will he be able to diagnose it as the light is no longer on? Is this a bad symptom? or anything else i should be worried of ?

If you have an autozone nearly, they can hook a scanner to it (for free) and see what trouble codes are set, that will give you a start.

The check engine light "generally" indicates a problem thrown by a sensor, that could affect emissions. It really could be anything, the scanner will tell what it is, whatever code set the light is stored in the computer.

i was a little concerned because when the check gauges was on intermediately, the temperature guage went all the way high & the car was sputtering ( no real acceleration ) this happened for a minute & then the check guages light went off, the temperature got back to normal & car started running good again, anything i should be worried of ?

sounds like you may have an air pocket that collects running the temp up and then when the thermostat opens up it "burps" it self and alows the coolant to flow again. I had a truck that had a very slow leak and if i hadn't checked the coolant in a while it would do the same thing. Added some coolant to bring level back up to where it should be and would be fine again.

That Light Only Comes On If The Oil Psi Is Low,alt Not Chargeing Or Over Heating ,
