Hi,
I have new Flowtech Rapter turbo style mufflers on my Camaro. It's a 400 engine with
headers and complete 2-1/4 exaust out the rear. The Rapters are not exsesively loud but
it does get annoying with the windowns down.
Does anyone know of a quiet muffler that is not as restrictive as stock?

Dynomax Super Turbos; nice tone, flow very well, but no resonance inside the car.

Well I talked to Holley who owns Flowtech who made my current "Raptor" mufflers. They said they don't have a quieter muffler.

I dunno maybe I'm strange but I like fairly quiet cars that go and hate nothing more than loud ones that don't.

Some people seem to get off on that loud resonance vibrating through the car though. Maybe they could pipe in some exhaust fumes too--ala Thunderbolt and Lightfoot http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

FrankP, great reference! I love that scene in that movie! And when he pulls all those rabbits out of the trunk and starts blasting them, oh man! That guy was nuts.

I totally agree about slow noisy cars. I'm a little biased though since my job usually involves keeping things quiet. I was riding with my boss to a meeting one time and a ricer with one of those fart exhausts passed us. He couldn't figure out why people would make their car noisier on purpose. "I'm more impressed by a car that has lots of power but is quiet than one that makes a lot of noise," he said.

You want loud and slow? Come to Oklahoma...the highest concentration of glasspacks and megaphones in the world!

You might also check out the Dynomax Hemi turbos...they are real mellow sounding but are a big muffler...may not fit well under a camaro.

I've got single exhaust on my 68 plain jane. I'm looking to replace the muffler soon.

Are these mufflers you guys are talking about, good for my application too?
I'm not looking for loud.
My muffler is located sideways, right behind the gas tank.

If you are not hot rodding the car, and hence not concerned with loosing a small amount of horse power on the top end, why not just go with a stock type replacement muffler?

got about 300 miles on my restoration!

FrankP....Yes, Im going to run a stock type muffler. I wasnt sure if one of those mufflers you guys were talking about was a stock type. I have Stainless Steel Magnaflows on my 67SS 396 Chevelle w/2" Dynomax Headers into 3" pipes and through the muffler and out the back with 2.5" pipes. The sound is a deep throaty one until you put your foot into it and then it crackles pretty loud... especially if you are behind me. Most people that have heard them say they like the sound. It is much different then Flowmasters. Unless they have changed their marketing strategy you can only buy them through muffler shops...at least that was how it was done 2 years ago. The have a web page but I don't remember the address.

Its really not necessary to give up hp and go for stock mufflers if you are looking for a quieter muffler. The Dynomax Super Turbos mentioned are quieter than most mufflers, make good power, and will fit anything.

If you really want something quiet, look into the Hemi Super Turbo mentioned earlier. These arent well known but are excellent mufflers. A muffler test in a mag several years ago showed them to be within one hp of the Flowmasters and to make slightly more peak torque. Of about ten mufflers tested they were by far the quietest. If you can fit them they might be just what you are looking for.
