I have a factory tilt column for my 69 Camaro that was originally a column shift. I am now converting to a T56 and therefore need to swap out the column bowl. I know that 68-72 Chevelles will work but what about a truck from that period, or another car. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, I couldn't see where it had.

The 1968 column parts will not interchange. The locking column started in 1969 so that is the starting point for your column parts.
Now some bad news. The shift tube inside the 1969 (and later) tilt columns is a press fit to the shift bowl. You will most likely ruin the shift tube trying to get it out. GM had specified two special J-number tools to remove and install the shift tube.

(Even though the above instruction sheet says Corvette T&T column, the lower parts as shown are all common to tilt and T&T columns.)
So rather than run the risk of destroying the shift tube you might consider removing the shift lever and sawing off the shift lever boss on the bowl. I know of several people that have converted their column shift columns over to floor shift in this manner. Most indicate that they were able to fill in the boss area so that the bowl looked like it was always a floor shift.

Thanks for the quick reply Jim. Your correct on the 68, that was a typo on my part. Plan B was to go ahead and do what you described...I really hate plan B's though. How close do you think a truck column would be? I would rather buy a different column as opposed to ruining a fairly rare and original part.
