I have been reading a lot of posts on this but have not really heard if one box is better than the other. Is there a performance gain with the higher cost steering boxes like Detroit Speed and AGR? Does the midrange box like AGR or Lares work as well as the Cardone boxes? I'm ready to purchase something but still confused on what to get. I'm willing to pay the $330 for the AGR just for the convienence of using the stock hoses but I just want to make sure the performance is as good. Is the Detroit Speed worth the $500? Thanks for any help on this "beaten to death", yet still confusing subject.

i don't think most people have exerience with all of them and can compare. i've done 2 3rd gen swaps with no experience with the others. you can find people rave about the others just as much. i'd recommend you stick to the simple rules, like: "how much is it worth to me", and "you get what you pay for". with that said, i still like my 2 cardones just fine!

Agree with the above. I've had Lares rebuild 3-4 boxes that were original to the cars. Lares does excellent work. Just tell them not to paint anything if you're looking for originality.

FWIW,..

I would also look into the ATS boxes. From what I have read they are a really nice unit and give the steering a rack and pinion type of feel.

I dont think the Cardone boxes are 12.7 to 1 ratio either.(More like 14 to 1) They do have the prefered valving(tighter feel) and less lock to lock.
