View Full Version : Proper burial for remains...

I am nearing the end of my restoration.
Like most TC members, I told myself I wouldn't toss anything out until I was all done.
As you may have guessed, I have created a nice little Camaro junk pile out back.
I have a complete sub-frame, 4 hubs, springs, floor, trunk, doors, all fenders, rockers, frame, tailpan, gas tank, radiator, etc..

None of these items are really usable, but I can't seem to drive over to the local junkyard and actually part with the remains.
I told my wife I could make a nice glass top table with the old rusty sub-frame, or maybe a new headboard from the tailpan.
...which is why I'm now asking you guys.

Did you disgard your old Camaro remains like an old shirt?
Did you cremate them and put them in an urn on your mantel?
Did you still have your old remains laying around the yard? (just in case)
Did you sell or donate them, to a Camaro owner who is less fortunate than you?
Did you bury them in your backyard and then ask other TC members what they think it is?

Someone suggested I get a small vile like Angelina Jolie and wear it around my neck,
only mine would have PG transmision fluid in it, instead of Billy Bob fluid.

MODS - I was going to put this in Bench Racing, ..but since I'm talking about my dead Camaro parts, I thought "Restoration Corner" might be more appropriate.

I'm not done yet but will have to consider this at that time. Some of the stuff I will be able to part with but there are things that will probably have to be considered. I am a packrat and hate to throw out stuff and this makes the car parts deal even worse.

Mine were too expensive. I think I have saved everything, lol.

I think I still have everything , hood, fenders, taillight bezels etc.
I just keep moving the big stuff around till I come up with a good hiding spot.
I can't bear to scrap it.

Tony ,
Do You Have A Camaro Buddy With An Old Barn Where They Store Their Old Parts , ( I Can Name About 5 ) . See If He Has Some Extra Room , That Way It's Out Of Your Back Yard And Out Of Sight . But Some Day If You Say I Wish I Had That Old Radiater Core ...

I've never been to a swap meet, and didn't want to get laughed at with a bunch of rusty steel.
I can't put a price on rust, and didn't want to waste an afternoon trying to give it away.
Would you laugh at the junk pile or see this as swap meet treasure?

We had a nice Chevy scrap yard in Denver who would have taken it, www.AmericanGraffiti.biz , but they recently went out of business.

It has some sentimental value, but the wife doesn't see it and I don't have a shed to keep it.
I know as soon as I dump it, someone will ask for something.
..or I'll see original rusty radiator tanks on Ebay for $1200.....
Is there a market for "original upper and lower A-arms" even rusty and pitted??
Does anyone consider rebuilding a bent and rusted sub-frame?

You could always just put a for sale thread up in the classifieds and see if anyone makes an offer on anything

Tony, you would be surprised what can still be used, just not for the original intent :)

complete sub-frame: someone may need the patches from it to repair theirs

4 hubs: if they are drum hubs, they can be used for CBB

springs, if they are: sagging coil springs(recycle), original leafs (they can be re-arched) repro (recycle)
floor: pieces can be used if there are good sections (trans tunnel, torque boxes, etc)
sheet metal: patch matierial or welding practice for someone else :)
gas tank: (recycle, check sender, if good sell)
radiator: if original tanks, they can be recored, if aftermarket, recycle

Have fun with your completed Camaro, I wish one of mine was! :D
