View Full Version : console gauges
RJBaileyrn Mar 28th, 08, 03:20 PM HI,
I have the consoles gauges in my 69. I also bought the "original" black plastic oil line for the oil pressure gauge. It came with the brass fittings and compression ring (ferrule) on each end. But this fitting doesn't match up to the brass fitting on the back of the oil pressure gauge, which is bigger. There must be a reducer fitting of some kind that goes between the two brass fittings. Anyone know anything about this?

bikesnbroadheads Mar 28th, 08, 07:05 PM RJ i also am getting ready to install a set of gauges in my 69 i have the oil line and gauges in a box and i just checked the fit mine match up no adapter needed looks like 1/4 inch. oil line came from ricks first gen maybe your gauge is not from a 69?
RJBaileyrn Mar 28th, 08, 07:37 PM GREAT, what next. On the back of my oil pressure gauge is a male threat that is bigger than the fitting on the end of the oil line.
Yours are the same size??
Damn,

JimM Mar 28th, 08, 07:54 PM RJ, I seem to recall somewhere that the repro guage takes a different fitting than the factory guage? That would be something I think I've read, not something I know firsthand. A search might reveal one or more of the threads I'm remembering.
You're not alone in this one.
RJBaileyrn Mar 28th, 08, 08:12 PM I did a search Jim, but couldn't find any helpful information. Guess I'll have to go to Ace Hardware and try to find a brass fitting that will adapt them.
By the way Jim, you may have seen my posts about Z-28 pulleys. I thought that alot of guys have put the Z-28 deep groove pulleys on their non 302 motors to help with belt throwing problems. I bought the full set of Z-28 deep groove pulleys, but the crank pulley is almost 1/2" longer, so it sticks out to far and the belts don't line up.
Since then I have read that ALL 69 pulleys are supposed to be deep groove, so i could have just used the 350 gm pulleys.
Do you know:
Are ALL 69 pulleys deep groove?
and
Are 69 302 and 350 crank pulleys NOT interchangable?
Thanks Jim.
JimM Mar 28th, 08, 08:39 PM I'm afraid I'm no expert on long water pump pulleys RJ. I'm a short pump kinda guy.
The more I think about it tho, the more I remember several threads in the last few years dealing with the oil line connection.
Do you have original or repro gauges?
I think that is the key.
Perhaps someone who has dealt firsthand with either of these issues will chime in and help.
RJBaileyrn Mar 28th, 08, 08:43 PM They were on the car when I got it, but I'm 99.999% sure they are aftermarket.

JohnZ Mar 29th, 08, 07:46 PM The repro oil line kit you describe works fine with the original gauge; don't know about the repro gauge.
:beers:
Everett#2390 Mar 29th, 08, 09:39 PM Most aftermarket oil press gauges came with the adapter, at least my SW gauge did.
RJBaileyrn Mar 29th, 08, 09:41 PM mine didn't
RamAirDave Mar 29th, 08, 11:35 PM The repro oil line kit you describe works fine with the original gauge; don't know about the repro gauge.
Yep. Ive used the repo line kit with original gauges, works fine. But havent used a repo gauge.
Another thing to note is that a regular, hardware store compression fitting wont seal on an original gauge. Need to use the type that was used then and comes with the line kit
RJBaileyrn Mar 30th, 08, 05:58 AM OK thanks, cause I just bought a compression union that I thought would work.
Maybe I'll just stick with my aftermarket gauges then, more useful anyway.

My OER gauges came with an adapter fitting on the oil pressure gauge as well.
Unreal Apr 2nd, 08, 10:11 AM All 69's did not come with deep groove pulleys. Only L78, Z/28 and COPO. If all 69's had them, they would far more available, and far less costly!!
