My 68 convertible has a transplanted 396 (350 hp). I've upgraded the radiator to 23" 4 core to be correct for a big block. I've converted to a 12 bolt posi. I now turn my attention to the incorrect th350 transmission. All big blocks came with either a 4 speed or th400. I'm leaning to convert to a 4 speed, though I could swap for a th400 a lot cheaper. If I'm going with a standard transmission, why not go for a tremec 5 or 6 speed? My car is quasi-original. Wheels stepped up to 15", traded up for the big block (stock but not original), SS badges were added, 12 bolt in rear. A four speed would be closer to correct, but most people wouldn't even notice the difference between a muncie and a tremec. I want the car to appear correct, not to say I want to pass it off as an original 396 ss. I guess I'm wondering which transmission change will have the most positive effect on the car's value. I want a tremec, but a muncie 4 speed might be a better, more correct fit. Thanks for your input.

I guess my choice is between am M20 or m21 4 speed rebuilt vs a tremec 5 speed. Though the 4 speed might be more correct, its hard to pass on the overdrive tremec. What would you do?

I'm going for an SS/RS convertible 396 clone. I want to ditch my incorrect th 350 auto tranny. I would like to do a tremec 5 speed kit. My question is: since I'm favoring changing to a standard transmission, would a tremec 5 speed or an m20 or m21 (to be more correct) enhance the value of the car most?
