Hey Guys!

I am replacing my BB heater core and ordered a new one from RockAuto. I got it and started to fit it up and noticed that it would fit perfectly if it were a SBC application, but does not even come close to the holes for the BBC heater box cover... So I check out the website to compare Part numbers and they list the same part number for SBC and BBC applications for the Brand of heater core that I purchased. It clearly does not fit. I am concerned that if I try to bend the bungs that I will break the solder joints on the core! Advice please.

1. Should I attempt to bend the bungs holding them close to the connection point at the heater core to minimize the stress from bending?
2. Take it to a local radiator shop, who may attempt and fail to complete option #1?
3. Send it back to Rockauto, I will probably eat the shipping... so much for discount online shopping!

Thanks!

Measure the box first (not the end pieces). If it is the same size then do what I have written below. If it is NOT the same, call Rick's and have them find the one that is the same size. Also, post yours here with the sizes that your original one is/was.

You are lucky that the core you just bought is the same size (if it is) as the correct original one from your car. A year ago and you would have had much more trouble finding the correct one. If it is the right size, keep it. They will all be the same and a problem if one is. That is my experience. The outlet tubes are a problem on many of them. No one cares.
You will find that your local radiator shop will have a better shot at bending it then you. If you have the OLD one, give that to them also and they can put your old outlet tubes on the new one. That will fix it also. The shops have been bending these for years and know how much to heat them. If you are going to have them bend it, it is best if you have an accurate template of the firewall so that it fits through. Most likely your Original Outlet Tube/end cap will be in good shape.

I know, it sucks that for how long these companies have been making these that they can not make some of them right.

Even if you go to your local auto parts dealer, it will be the same bad fit. Where do you think Ricks, Classic Industries, etc get them??? The same Manufacturers.

So, I just got off the phone with the supplier and after discussion they are taking the part back. Unfortunately, they are also sticking by their vendor and stating that this should fit... It is too bad that they are not going to flag this part as it will get shipped out to another unsuspecting Camaro owner!

This was an internet purchase, so I think that I will stick local with the next round. Much easier to return if this continues to be a problem!

Thanks for the feedback!

I have the same situation. Unfortunately I purchased mine some time ago (from Rock Auto) as I started to accumulate parts that I knew I'd need.

Good idea on the rad shop...I'll take mine there.
