I just purchased a 68RS all original and was wandering if sound dampening the interior would alter the value of the car. The interior needs to be restored ie seat covers and foam, carpet, door panels. Thanks

Chip Foose uses it, Body Coddington (RIP) does and virtually every single build you ever see has some covering the floor. If it's a total show car, not to be driven, then perhaps it would affect value. But if you're gonna drive the car, I'd use it. Of course, this is just MHO. I am not a professional collector car buyer/seller.

Since this forum is about originality, Foose and Coddington are not know for doing factory correct restorations. I don't think too many serious collectors would like finding dyno-mat under the carpet of one of their restored original cars.

What do you plan to do with your car? Drive it, show it, if you want an original car then don't add the sound deadner. If you're modding it then go ahead... JMO

Its not original but the buyer would have to be pretty anal to not want it because of it...

I don't get your point of view. Isn't the whole reason for owning anything original, originality?

Just to play devil’s advocate . . . someone might see it as an attempt to cover rust. Same goes for fresh undercoating (or a lot of undercoating). Some buyers may see that as ‘cover up’.

(I’m assuming we are talking about re-sale. If you are going to keep the car for a while, install it and enjoy it.)

Well I appreciate all the opinions. Thanks so much. I think I will go with Matt's. When I am dead and gone my kids can fuss about the sound proofing, meanwhile I am going to enjoy the damn thing seeing as I am doing the restore. Thanks again
