: Help me pick out a set of wheels!

I'm trying to find a set of wheels I like. I was set on some of Wheel Vintiques Billet Rallyes but they don't look like they are going to fit my brakes.

Here is what I have:
Stock sub-frame with AFX spindles with Touring Classics big brake kit (12.7 C5 rotors). Rear axle will be a Moser 12 bolt, probably go with the TC kit for the rear as well (12" rotors). Fitment for the fronts seems to be the issue.

I am looking for 17/18" wheels that are available in 11/12" wide for the rears (going to mini-tub) and 8" wide for the fronts. Planning on running Michellin PS/2 335 in back, 245 front (or larger, depending on what I can fit in the front).

I am hoping for something below the $600.00 per wheel price range. Something that looks good but still goes with the period look of my 69 (why I liked the Billet Rallyes so much) :)

Any suggestions and/or pictures are definitely welcome. Thanks in advance!

Completely different than rallyes but if I had been going big I would have looked seriously at these two tone coddingtons. I haven't seen them on another 1st gen (and to me that's a good thing).

Thanks for the suggestion, they look pretty cool, but widest seems to be 10" :( Between needing something 11" for the rears and what will fit the c5 brakes looks like my selection of rims is very few and far between :(, especially if I don't want to spend 1k+ per rim.

You may need to go post this over at www.lateral-g.net or www.pro-touring.com because I think you will have a brake clearence issue with period correct wheels and on top of that staying in that price range $600.00 is going to be tuff. When you go to a 12 wide wheel the price goes way up. CCW has 12" wide wheels near your price range about $750.00 I think but they are not period correct. If I were you I would contact Frank from Prodigy Customs (who is a vender on this site as well as serveral others). He has very good pricing and he will know what you need to work with those spindles and brakes. There are other fine venders on this site also and I'm not knocking any of them or trying to take away business but even if you don't buy from Frank he will have options for you. I'm sure Jon from Driver's Inc should be along and he may be able to help also.

10" is as wide as you'll find in a "stock" wheel being that they are limited to the hoop sizes. To widen them even just 1",figure on adding $400/wheel to your costs.

Ask me how I know...

Seriously, get ahold of Jon @ www.driverzinc.com for some of the best advice in the business.

With the AFX spindle you have to make sure that whatever wheel you choose will fit the C5 style brakes. Some people have to run a small spacer to allow clearance between the brake and the backside of the wheel.
Here's a link to the fitment template from Touring Classics.
http://www.touring-classics.com/Templates/C5.PDF

I know Forgelines fit without a spacer. There's a thread over at PT.com or lat-g where people have been posting what wheels work and which ones don't.

You gotta be wanting to run a hella big tire for 10" not to be enough, what's your target tire sizes?

Going to mini-tub the rear, so I am targeting a 335 sized tire for the rear  hence I need at least a 11" at wide rim for 335/35/17 and a 11.5" wide for 335/30/18 for Michelin PS/2s.

Yeah I am finding out that $600 for the rears is probably not very realistic (least there is very few choices based on the requirements). It is just that the original wheels I was going to go with from Wheel Vintiques that came in 17x11 had a nice price point of around $550.00, so that set my expectations in price too low :( .

Thanks for all the suggestions, I gave Frank a call at Prodigy and he suggested Boze Forged that he said I could get in 17x11 that should fit and not break the bank.

Anyone with any pics of a Boze 5-speed on a Camaro?

You can also get these straight from the source - www.vintagewheelworks.com (http://www.vintagewheelworks.com). I got mine from them, ordered on a Thursday (Friday was Good Friday), they had them in Monday's production and they were at my house on Friday afternoon, ready to have tires mounted. They are made in USA as well, right there in Cali., shipped to Indiana, which had to take several days by itself.

I would really recommend them if you like the styling. Prices are great, service is great, and everyone that has seen them on my car absolutely loves them.

Of course everyone has different tastes, but I think these are wheels that won't look dated in a couple years, which I think some of the big billets may.

Happy wheel shopping!

No offense, but those style are so played out from the prostreet era in my opinion.

Skeeter55, I sure like those Rally wheels, your car looks pretty awesome with them. I'm curious what brakes are you running with them?

77thor: I went to the website to look at them. I don't know if I would be in a hurry to buy those wheels. The pic you show is a 69 Camero, according to them. LOL

Special thanks to Frank at Prodigy, I called Frank up and he suggested Boze Forged in 17x8 and 17x11 that wouldn't break the bank and should fit on my front brakes.

So far I think I have narrowed it down to 4 styles, been trying to find pictures on a 1st Gen Camaro but not much luck:

Boze Wedge 5:

http://www.zeforged.com/wedge5.html

Boze Muscle:

http://www.zeforged.com/muscle.html

Boze Five Speed:

http://www.zeforged.com/fivespeed.html

Boze Benton:

http://www.zeforged.com/benton.html

Thinking of maybe going with the Brushed or perhaps the Metallic Silver or Gunmetal centers as slightly darker center seems to look good with the Le Mans Blue paint.

Any opinions on which rim or color center?

If I had to pick, I would go with the "muscle".

I too have VWW's. Rusty is a great guy to deal with. I'm on my second set.

WOW: ok in my opinion i like the Muscle with the brushed finish center and a polish lip. I think it wont look to busy next to the blue/white.

That will be a sick azz awesome tubbed ride when your done....Just makes me jealous, but in a good way.

Muscle for me too. Polished or brushed will look hot.

CarlC: I can't wait to get mine on my 68. It will looke exactly like yours. Still a little early for us Cannucks but your picture has inspired me again.

The VWWs do have that "period" look to them, plus the grey centers seem to go well with many different car colors, very tempting.

Damn decisions decisions! :D

Well one of the advantages of living in Southern California is that many wheel manufacturers are located here. So I went around to Budnik, Boze, Vintage Wheel Works, Intro Wheels and Rushforth and actually looked at each of their wheels in person. What a difference, I found that the mesh style has really grown on me and what I liked on the web was very different in person

Now think I have narrowed it down to:

Wheel Vintiques v45s
http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/products/images/V45-17x11-icon.gif

Boze Pro-Tourings
http://www.zeforged.com/images/wheels/boze/protouring1.gif

or Intro 311s
http://www.idluxurywheels.com/uploads/files1/wheel_311_150.jpg

I really liked the mesh style with a brushed and clear coated outer lip with gunmetal centers, that is what really brought that style out for me. The mesh style has more modern look and more represents what I am going to do to the car, but the V45s have that more period look which goes well with the sleeper look I originally envisioned.

I do have to say thou that the Rushforth wheels are pretty amazing, just out of my price range based on the widths I need.

The advantage to the vintage look is that it's immune to the "dating" that the modern wheels all suffer eventually, very few wheel styles withstand the test of time. If I went with a modern wheel it would have vintage styling elements (the boze muscle has that 5 spoke look)that may shed the dating problem. The V45's are bullet proof in the styling department, CarlC's car is evidence of that, I saw his car up close and it's a perfect wheel style for the 1st gen.
I went with 17" AR salt flats, love the old halibrand look with the slots that kind of give the look of the stock rallye wheel.
