Question on how exactly to replace the tulip panel on a 67 camaro. I see the top and bottom can be ground or cutoff but how are the sides welded? I can not see any welds. How do you replace the panel. The quarters are going to be replaced also with full quarters, but I may just 90% them the quality of the full quarters I have seems terrable lots of small dents and wavy between the sail panel and to the bottom of the trunk area. The rear of the passenger quarter is actually split on the section above the tail light. Bought these about a year and half ago just got around to actually check them out good.

I know this is probably going to spark a big debate, but here goes. The 'tulip panel' is NOT between the 1/4 panels. That would be the rear filler panel. Below is a picture of the 'tulip panel', named so as it resembles a tulip petal.

Please see Rick's Catalog if you think I am crazy. Part number PP-66L & PP-66R.

Here's a link to the Sheet Metal Page...choose 'Cowl, Firewall & Roof' on the left, then scroll down until you find it.

OK well sorry for calling it the wrong name, but you have any pictures on how to replace the "Rear Filler" panel.

67RSLS -

My post wasn't meant to slam you, hopefully you didn't take it that way. There are tons of people who call the rear filler panel the 'tulip panel' for some reason.

Either way, the easiest way to replace the filler panel is to order the new one first. Look for the edges that are on the new one, measure, and cut. It probably does not fit exactly how the factory one does.

Didnt take it as a slam, but I dont see how to re-weld the sides by the quarter. Is that accessable from the trunk underneath? Or is the trunk spring supports in the way????

The original Fisher Body (and still current) internal GM Engineering "slang" name for the panel below the backlite and between the quarters has always been "tulip panel"; the name on the part drawing is "Rear window to deck lid opening filler panel". The front panel circled on the photo above was always the "elephant ear" in GM slang, and its name on the part drawing was "Side shroud outer closure panel". graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The panel is spot welded to the 1/4 panels around the taillights through the trunk. it is also welded to the trunk floor rear under the bumper. the bottom edge is welded to the inside panel under the trunk that the rear frame rails are also attached to. The seam on each side, below the bumper to the bottom edge, is not welded. Kinda strange, but there is no access.

Mat I think you are talking about the panel below the tail lights and bumper there.
This topic is about the piece below the rear glass and above the top of the trunk opening. In the trunk, the radius rods string along under this panel that some refer to as Tulip panel. As JohnZ said, it is acceptable in some discussions to use that term for this piece.
