Hi gguys,
Problem of the day:
I am reinstalling my 69 coupe steering column, actually it's already back in. Getting ready to reinstall Comfort Grip wheel, but have a feeling something is not right about it all. With the wheel off, that little round plastic tube is at the 1-2 o'clock position with the wheels pointed straight ahead. Pics I've looked at show it being at 10-11 o'clock. AIM doesn't tell me that much.
Does anyone have pics or a sequence of pics showing the top end of the steering column and what it should look like.
I'm pretty sure the rag joint and all that are back in right. Need to visualize things
Any help appreciated.

This is what my steering column looks like with wheels pointed straight ahead. Is this right?

RJ, when I replaced my wheel it was in the approx 10-11 position. Even that position came close to causing a problem, but the Grant wheel I bought had an "option A and option B" position to accommodate the turn signal cancel (the plastic tube). Try putting it on loosely and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that your turn signal won't cancel automatically, but you can probably still center your wheel. But...I'm not familiar with the CG wheel either, so.......
Lastly, before removing the old wheel...did you make sure you had it centered (as in, same amount of turn left/right from center)?

Kevin,
Actually I had everything out because I put in the 3rd gen power steering box. It's been a big job to get it back in, and the whole swap waas not easy. I had manual box before.
Anyway, I notice there is a line scribed on the steering wheel end of the steering shaft. I assume that mark is supposed to point to 12 o'clock. Right now it points to 6 o'clock. looks like I might need to take the bolts out of the rag joint and rotate half a turn. If I did that, that plastic tube would be at 10 o'clock like you say. Just what I wanted to do.
I'm not sure how much impact that plastic tube has as to where it's located. I also assume it is part of the horn mechanism. My horn has never worked, so I didn't worry too much about it yet.
I notice there is a wierd looking metal piece with teeth on the inside that the steering wheel bolts to. That piece has "top" written on it in two places kinda like what you mentioned.
Any more info appreciated.

Now that you mention it, that "wierd looking metal thing..." has top A and top B on it. Maybe this is a Grant wheel I have. Do you have any pictures of the pieces you used to install it?
