Hi guys,
Just wondering if there is any point in keeping old replaced stuff like disk brake calipers and wheel cylinders when they are pitted and rusty. Also, any point in keeping my old manual steering box when I've gone to the 3rd gen power box, stuff like that. What do you guys do with it. Garage is getting pretty crowded.

Original parts I keep in case I have the money to go back and have them refurbished. Stuff I know I won't use I offer up here or cragislist for sale.

Calipers will cost you more for core charge then the new replacements. You never know when something on the car may need a fastener replaced and you have it on an old part. I sure hate having the stuff clutter my small garage but too many times I have kept the car driveable without waiting for a parts order to come in... I was at FarmBoys house and he uses big tupperware type tubes to put parts in. They stack nice and keep things sorted nicely. Some day I'll have to follow suit, I have stuff tucked everywhere...

I'm to cheap for tupperware so I pickup used plastic buckets off construction sites and put the stuff in. I use a sharpie and write on whats inside so I don't have to look in everyone to find something. They stack ok too!

I don't throw out anything anymore. If nothing else, when you go to a parts store it's nice to have an example of what you're looking for. Most of the guys at the counter have no idea what you are talking about when you try to describe a 40-year old part. If it's not in the computer it's as though it never existed.

Thanks guys...you've help me see the light...on parts that is.

Was going to start a thread much like this one, asking if I am the only one still holding on to parts and more parts... with the wifey breathing down my neck, asking that proverbial question, "When you gonna get rid of all this stuff?"

I feel at times that I'm the only one hanging on xtra car stuff... like an extra set of rear lights (just in case someone hits me from behind)...as if, eh?

Typically, I have that standard two car garage, that I keep telling myself that I'm gonna move some day and get a proper sized one...and ya, another as if.

I'd considered the swap meet thingy, but you really get trashed at those events...but have noticed that the part prices are going up, and fewer are giving things away as they use to... or would haggle more for the end price.

Thanks again for the insight, and support. I'm still the hoarder...like others, eh?

I've got lots of leftover parts. Most were where I bought extras of something in hopes of putting the more pristine ones on the car. In most cases the choice was more "eanie, meanie". I'm headed to eBay with mine...as soon as I can download pics. Larger audience, and generally higher prices than at a swap meet. More hassle, though...at least at a swap meet you just throw them on a table or tarp, and folks can see what you have. no "Can you post a few more pics of that bracket"

I've been doing some e-bay stuff too. I small block iron heads that are low performance, non original, and brake calipers all pitted that I will never use. Just can't see keeping all that stuff that I know will never go back on. If I could get a few bucks for them, I could use the money toward some stuff I really want for the car.
