Has anyone here tried using a plasma cutter in lieu of the spot weld remover when removing old body panels? I think if it could be done the plasma cutter would be quicker but is it as accurate?

Thanks

I've used it. It is real quick. You have to have a steady hand (I don't smile.gif ) or else the hole gets really sloppy and you have to go quick around the hole to only get one layer. I might be able to get some pics. But the holes get better with practice. I don't use a spot weld cutter anymore.

hole left by cutter.

plugs left by cutter. There is definetly more cleanup to do with a plasma cutter.

I personaly find my air chisel with a sharp flat end to work quite well. First I remove the panel next to the spot welded flange with a plasma cutter or air chisel with a panel cutting tip, then I seperate the flange useing the air chisel cutting through the spot welds. Sometimes on the larger welds I drill a hole through them first. I then grind off the remaining spot weld material and it gives me a nice clean flat flange to attach the new panel to.
