I have an 86 camaro that I had purchased off of a friend at work. The car was in pieces (Body and interior) when I bought it. It's taken me two years (working on it here and there ) to get it on the road. It has ran great in that time frame with no problems at all! The engine is a built 350! Built by the previous owner! It sounds and runs damn good! My problems is now that I can findly drive it, only every once in a while after driving the car for a while; the oil presure will drop to all most nothing one the 0-60 gauge. I can not notice any change in the engine! I does not do it all the time. One day I can be driving around for hours and it be fine! Anybody have this problem before?

When you say drop to nothing is that while you are driving or at idle?

It is an electrical gauge

Either or. And once it drops there is no change from idle to driving.

Sounds like a ground issue to me also. If you cant prove this, try installing a mechanical test guage if u have access to one. Id rathaer you be certain than rebuilding a engine.

Definately use a mechanical test gauge. I have heard people complain about the accuracy of electric oil gauges, especially an OEM instrument cluster mounted unit. Use an aftermarket mechanical(preferably Autometer or equivalent)mounted in an easily readable location. I believe Gauge Works makes an A pillat pod for those cars.

Change sending unit and compare to a mechanical gauge.

The electrical plug in on that year model at the sender is easy to not get on well. I have one of those senders, it is a 3 prong big old wart lookin thing if I remember right and the connector is huge too. And the space these items reside in is small on a 86.

yeah, tee in a mechanical gauge and put your mind at rest.

as everyone else said...sometimes when those senders fail, they leak thru the plug, so pull the plug off and look for oil residue in the plug itself...the sender is behind the distributor, bout 3 inches long with a black plastic plug on it...
