: Wife and neighbors still putting up it!
Phx 69 camaro Apr 4th, 08, 11:09 PM After one year, a trip to the eye doctor to extact metal, one small
garage fire which included my wifes comforter, a broken grinding
wheel in the face, one hot welding chard down the shorts welding
upside down, I think I'm getting close. Still waiting for a letter
from the HOA for all the noise. Think I can paint it in the garage?
Anybody out there getting complaints from wife or neighbors? Thank's
to everybodys help on TC I think I just may finish this thing.
1969ss Apr 5th, 08, 12:35 AM You could paint it late at night, maybe a rainy night, I don't think that will hurt it any. Watch the wind direction, if your compressor makes a lot of noise, wait until its windy out. Hit her when there sleepin, and hit it hard.:D

Howard Holland Apr 5th, 08, 08:47 AM It dosen't take long to paint...............sooooooooooooo

rs69ss Apr 5th, 08, 09:18 AM I would suggest weekday early in day, most people are at work. At night alot of bugs out
hamiltonperformance Apr 5th, 08, 09:29 AM In the Los Angeles area we have way too many laws. Here in California it is a $10,000 fine from AQMD for painting with a spray gun outside an approved spray booth (excludes airless for house painting). Dust and dirt is always an issue when you paint anyway. Many adult school or occupational/vocational schools have automotive training programs with spray booths. Some shops will rent booth access depending how busy they are. Best chance to rent a booth is usually Sundays. Best of luck with your project.
Hey Bill - keep up all the hard work but man be more careful! Don't waht to hear that you end up disabled and don't get to enjoy the fruits of all your work!

You got to be kidding, there is no way i would ever even consider living in CA, that is just wrong.
Do you need to get a permit to wipe your *** in CA also?
Where do they find these morons that make the laws.
Any ways just keep all your tree huggers on the west coast, we don't need the aggravation here in PA.
DOUG G Apr 5th, 08, 01:17 PM If your garage is attached to your house DO NOT PAINT IN THE GARAGE !
Fumes will permeate the house and could ignite if there's a spark or open flame (pilot light) and don't think the fumes will be enjoyed by the wife/girlfriend :noway:
jcdubs Apr 5th, 08, 02:45 PM First off Bill the car is looking great, nice work:thumbsup: Ahh the neighbors, most of mine are real cool, there is one that just does not understand the whole car thing. They think I am nuts. lol
BillK Apr 5th, 08, 02:58 PM Anybody out there getting complaints from wife ?
Only complaint I am getting is that I am taking waaaay to long getting the car back together so she can drive it some again :)
Eleanor's Nemesis Apr 5th, 08, 04:36 PM Err on the side of safety and caution.....see if you can rent a spray booth or even just hire the spraying out to a pro.
My experience with HOA's is they will certainly freak out if they find out you sprayed a car in your garage.
NakeDiesel Apr 5th, 08, 05:08 PM I live in a HOA neighborhood as well, I figured for sure I'd get the book thrown at me while I was sandblasting the car in the evenings. I worked on Sand blasting for about 3 months as I got time to do it. I built a tent in the garage to contain most of it, but it still billowed out. My neighbors come over from time to time to see the progress and how far I've gotten. I'm getting ready to build the tent for painting the epoxy this week, now that I have the subframe cleaned up and repaired. I figure I'll keep doing it in the garage until someone tells me to stop or I move again.

gramps68 Apr 5th, 08, 05:36 PM My neighbors don't seem to mind and are usually interested in the progress, at least thats what they tell me, some even think its pretty cool that someone is building a ride in the neighborhood and they like to see how its going.........
the wife on the other hand is a different subject.......didn't like me painting just some small stuff in the garage....I did make a "tent" in the garage, but she always worries about the neighbors.... and the fact that she "can't stand the smell" when I am painting "stuff." ......and the general mess.....and...and....and....
and I have to live with her, not the neighbors....She says that she can arrange for me to move out with the neighbors.....:D Hey now theres an idea!:boxing:
Unreal Apr 5th, 08, 07:44 PM Hit her when there sleepin, and hit it hard.:D
Rob
OK that will work for your wife, but what about the neighbors? :)
DOUG G Apr 6th, 08, 05:35 AM As for the HOA (I'm a boardmember on mine:D) and there's nothing in mine about "working in your garage" but we do have a "no cars on blocks/stands in the driveway" rule. Always a loop hole :D
Bolt Apr 6th, 08, 06:03 AM I only have one car guy in my neighborhood. I wish there were more. Wouldnt it be cool to have a bunch of Team Camaro guys living on the same block. You can only dream. Great project Bill. Good Luck!
Hatya Apr 6th, 08, 08:16 AM I live in an exclusive white color subdivision, the one where the prissy housewife wears lil pink gloves and special shorts to work on the flower beds, but really doesnt do anything but yell at her huby about doing more work. My neigherbor is kewl as hell, and he insist i come get him if i need an extra hand.
I have my 67 vert on the rotisserie and i stop alot of traffic in here when i roll it out to the driveway while cleaing the garage. I have my subframe with the engine trans in it, sitting in my driveway, sideload garage so its nearly in my back yard. But its covered up nicely with a tarp. Last night i was grinding and making a ton of noise until 11pm. Every so oftern i get one of the older guys peeking his head in my garage while im working, then he tells me about the old car he used to have when he was a kid.
But overall i have no real complaints from anyone. But im an old school blue collar kid from the South side of chicago. I really dont care what others think, i do what i do because it makes me happy. When someone wants to tell me what to do in my house/garage, my standard answer has always been " you pay my morgage and I'll pretend i give a sh!t about your opinions" LOL

My thoughts exactly!!!
69mustang Apr 8th, 08, 05:10 AM I live in North Dakota, we don't have neighbors LOL we can do damn near anything we want in our yard, garage, house. come to think of it some don't even have wives to worry about LOL
greg1ontheedge Apr 8th, 08, 05:59 AM Oh boy, I really should not be doing this :-) Covenants are there to protect your property values from morons who don't care until they're ready to sell their homes. Then they clean uo their place and want top dollar! Covenants are there to protect your neighbors from the car-nut morons who negatively effect the vaue of their property. Adherence to covenants is following the rules, as we were taught as children. If you don't respect and abide by the covenants, you are the problem, whether anybody complains or not. Flame off...............
Daral Apr 8th, 08, 06:17 AM When I bought my car in 2005, everyone in the family wanted a ride. It was a little rough looking and the old cherry bomb glass packs were not.......well lets just say they were not functioning properly. I ran it up and down our road a dozen times over a few weeks until everyone had a chance to ride or drive. Then I pulled it in the shop and have been working on it since. My wife was talking with one of our neighbors about a week after I started the restoration and she was complaining about the kid on our street that was running that "beat up hot rod" up and down the road and turning around in her driveway. She was not happy!! Unfortunately her husband happens to be one of our Judges in town. My wife had to admit it was her husband not the juvenile delinquent that owned that beat up hot rod. Oops. Good thing I am friends with the Judge. He has borrowed my tools on more than one occasion and is hoping to get a ride when I am done. I think I will let him drive if he wants.
Camuchi Apr 8th, 08, 07:24 AM We are a little out in the country in a neighborhood with 1-5 acre lots , however my garage/shop is like 35-40 feet from my neighbors garge end of thier house. No complaints yet.Plenty of sandblasting and metal work going on.
My buddy came over a few weeks back with his newly tuned up '67 442 for some 'test' driving. Well when he left he put a couple of nice 30 foot marks down the street starting from my driveway woohoo. Still no complaints,
I do have one neighbor with a full on 1969 drag car, did not even know about him or it until one sunday @ 1 yr after I moved in I heard them fore it up over on the other street and then a QUICK test drive ZOWIE.
And another time when I was breaking in the new heads, headers and cam on an old 351w truck i owned, did the 20-30 mintue break in with the headers open , saturday afternoon @ 1 pm. Only later did i find out they were having a wedding about four houses away:o
So i guess I am pretty lucky, so far. Between my car habit and my five kids the neighbors might have just given up and decided to stay inside permanently!

bumpybigblok Apr 8th, 08, 07:35 AM I once painted a Mac tool van in a K-Mart parking lot at 3 AM because it wouldn't fit in my shop. I rented a gas compressor and parked under the bright lights and went to work. No one bothered me. Do what you gotta do.

HAHAHA...nice.....that one made me chuckle a bit.
Phx 69 camaro Apr 8th, 08, 10:31 PM It's great to hear from you guys about neighbors and hoa's, so
far so good. Since last week I think I lucked out on the painting.
I own a landscape maintenance service and we service only
commercial buildings. This monday I stopped by one that has
a body shop and inside, a huge downdraft paint booth. I watched
this guy base and clear a car, really impressed he made it look easy.
We started talking about cars and he told me his boss let the guys
use it on weekends. He said he would shoot the car and teach me
at the same time how to do it. Hope it works out.
DougP Apr 9th, 08, 05:29 AM My buddy and I painted mine in my garage. Yes, I set up a tent, and yes I did it early in the moring, and yes I did have the neighbors ask me what I was doing in the garage when that cloud of red fog was coming out of the back window.
However, I wont paint in my garage again. Its just too much of a pain in the a$$ to prep the garage, worry about how much room you have to lay out parts, worry how to regulate air flow so the garage is evacuated properly, worry about bugs and dust getting into the paint, worry about not accidentally bumping into parts after you painted them, worry about cleanup and proper disposal of the chemicals you just used, etc, etc, etc.....
If there is a next time, its going to be off to the paint shop, write 'em a check, and sit back and have a cold one. :beers:

Well there ya go!
Back to the neighborhood thing... I try not to grind, cut, bang, do anything too noisy after about dinner time. Then I try and find some unbolting to do, clean up the garage, something not so noisy. I don't think my neighbors would care too much but I'd rather be as considerate as I can and stay on everyone's good side.
67SS&99SS Apr 9th, 08, 01:48 PM I work on my stuff right outside my shop, but I live out in the country, so no one bothers me, except when they stop and try to buy what I'm working on. :D I usually give all my toys a workout once a week on the weekends and both of my neighbors enjoy seeing the cars and hearing them run. My cuda had open headers for about 4 months, and no one seemed to mind. My neighbor across the street came over one day when I had it running, and he said I had to see what sounded so good. :D

I'm like you. I have 4 acres in a rural neighborhood, so I don't get any hassle. I do, however, have a lot of old school guys that had the "Mustang that would pull the wheels off the ground", so I constantly get stopped about my build. The best one yet, though, is the guy that had a 65 Camaro JUST LIKE MINE!!!! Just like it, huh?
I love when they ask me what I'm going to do with it when I finish it. My response is always the same...Drive the piss out of it and NOT sell it to you! I rarely see them again after that.

Oh My GOD - I'm still laughing!!! I can picture it now.... That's too funny!

bumpybigblok Apr 10th, 08, 07:27 PM This aint as funny as the Tool Van story, but in the same neighborhood in Houston , I patched up a freinds boat in my driveway. The neighbor sent the law over and told me I was not zoned commercial and same neighbor said he couldn't eat his tomatoes since they were covered with fiberglass dust. Same
neighbor comes over a month later and tells me his catamaran got damaged
in a storm and would I help him fix it. I said I'd really like to , But I can't , It's against the Rules. So I went across the street and helped a good neighbor fix his boat in his garage. No complaints. And I hate boats.
scblucam Apr 12th, 08, 10:40 AM Oh I remember the days. White Cadillac, black laquer. Good thig the laquer was dry before it landed on the Caddy.
