: camaro camp out
justincat Apr 7th, 08, 04:26 PM So I took my car to the shop today to get my posi and 373s installed. After talking with the guy awhile he said bring it in and he would put it inside overnight, and have it done by tommorow evening. I talked to him, and he gave my a little tour of his shop and seemed like he would take care of it. Kinda nervous though. Has anyone ever let their car stay the night somewhere?
DOUG G Apr 7th, 08, 05:21 PM LOL :D
I'd only take the rear in, but thats me :D
Leave my baby with a stranger :noway: I know the guy who does front end alignments and he has a very low 10.?? ET... but leave my car over nite :noway: LOL
justincat Apr 7th, 08, 05:36 PM G thanks Doug. :clonk:Now im getting more nervous. When I go get something to eat later im going to drive by and make sure it is inside like he said. (lol.. Im stalking my camaro)
RamAirDave Apr 7th, 08, 05:37 PM Will probably be okay. I would be more weary of the possibility of an employee taking a test drive and hurting it.
Which shop is it? You can PM me if you dont want to post it.
67CAMAROSS Apr 7th, 08, 11:08 PM People Leave There Cars At My Shop All The Time They All Feel The Sameway ,only If You Trust Them,as Far As Test Drive Only The Tec Working On It Should After There Done Just One Of Though's Things. If There Good Enough To Work On It There Good Enough To Test Drive It.
RamAirDave Apr 7th, 08, 11:22 PM My shop has been used to store cars that we're not even doing any work on, for when someone needs a secure place to keep their car for a day or two. Heck, my Z has been sitting there collecting dust while being a glorified parts car for about a year. :(
Test drives shouldnt be an issue, but there have been quite a few horror stories here on TC in the past of shop employees taking a little too much liberty with cars.
On a different note: Is there a setting here that caps the first letter of every word typed? :D
click Apr 8th, 08, 07:38 AM IF YOU KNOW THE GUY.. no problem. I leave mine with my mechanic alot, drop off at 5pm, he then has a cool exhaust or engine to work on at 7am when he starts to work on it. I also allow it to stay there somewhat as always 2nd in line. If he gets another client with need for repair, he can go work on that and let mine go awhile. Im usually never in a hurry so he gives me a break on the shop rate that way too. :)
Brentmc Apr 8th, 08, 12:02 PM I have left my car overnight 3 times.
I first ensured it would be kept inside and second I told them that I would stop back by occasionally to see how things were going. I also wrote the exact mileage on the work order (they get the point when you do this). I also tell them I was nervous about leaving my car overnight--they always reply, "don't worry, we'll take care of it" and realize that I
All this doesn't guarentee anything, but it increases the odds that they realize how you feel about the car. I did this on my recent 700R4 swap, came back and it had 4 mor miles on it than when I left it. A typical road test distance. It increased my faith on the shop and how they do business. (They, of course, could have done a 4-mile long burnout, which would look exactly the same as a test drive on the odometer....;) )
That said, my buddy put his Vette in the dealer's shop for a minor issue that didn't require a road test and he noted the mileage (but didn't write it down). When he got it back, it had 75 more miles on it and a Subway wrapper on the passenger side floor. He raised heck with the GM, the mechanic was called to the front, he apologized and they dressed the mechanic down in front of everyone. I would additionally demanded that they erase all labor charges and fill my tank with gas..at a minimum.
DOUG G Apr 8th, 08, 03:08 PM Hope all turns out well (I know it will)
captcanuck68 Apr 8th, 08, 05:18 PM If the owner has been in business for some time, he must be a reliable sort...but, I would have checked him out anyway...before dropping off the car. But, you've done this already.
Previous to your thread, there was a great deal of discussion on this same topic...did you take a look into the archives? Some good ideas and opinions came out in the talk on this type of event.

justincat Apr 8th, 08, 05:22 PM Well I get a call today and they said I need new axles, I sure wish I would have looked in there before I took it. He said that it had axle savers in there, and he couldnt put them back in. So now I have to wait 2 days intill the axles come in. He told me he was going to leave it on the lift up in the air just incase.
