Is the power steering pulley supposed to just pull off after you remove the nut on the front? Or do I need a tool to remove it?

You may need to tap it from behind with a small hammer to help it slide off. brad900 Apr 8th, 08, 05:51 PM If it is held on with a nut then you will need a power steering pully removal tool. Go to autozone & rent it for free. Also you this tool to put it on, do not use a hammer!!! Yes, plus spray a little penetrant around the shaft and let it sit for a while. The pump that uses a nut has a keyway and does not need a puller. The pump with no nut is a press fit and does need a puller and installer. Chris396 Apr 8th, 08, 09:59 PM Thanks. I'll have to spray it. It's on there pretty good. JIML82 Apr 9th, 08, 09:31 AM BTW, I would only spray the penetrating oil from the front of the pulley (and then not too much!) There is a rubber driveshaft seal in the nose of the pump. You might even try to shield the seal from the spray. I can't imagine that penetrating oil would do the rubber any good. I would think that the oil will travel up the keyways in both the pulley and the pump driveshaft and will release things fairly quickly. JIML82 Chris396 Apr 9th, 08, 10:06 AM Maybe I should just mask everything off and paint the pulley while it's still on?
