: having car inspected
okiemark Apr 8th, 08, 07:26 PM looking at that car that claims to be all original. Although I've been doing research and studying up on how to find the numbers on a 69, Is there an "expert", if you will, who would go check the car out and give me the ups and downs? I live in Simi Valley, Ca. what would this service cost if it exists? Thanks TC (as always, big help)
captcanuck68 Apr 8th, 08, 07:42 PM Just send me round trip air fair, and I'll help you out, OK?:)
Seriously, get hold of a local reputable classic car repair shop, and see if one of the guys would be willing to go out with you after work... you could negociate a cost.
Just remember that whoever you take, better be on the up and up, as there are many out there who are looking for a find, just as you have described. Would hate to see a great one slip through your hands to someone else.

okiemark Apr 8th, 08, 09:19 PM thank you! i guess they'd be the ones to know. You're right, I'd just hate for it to be the guys long-lost cousin. But, would a machinic necessarily know how to look for the numbers?? Early Camaros are a little goofy with their coding at times. thanks.
captcanuck68 Apr 9th, 08, 06:39 AM You will find that once in the muscle car circle that there is host of pro's out there with lots of background/knowledge of the Cams. If you even attend some of the local car club meetings/car meets/shows, there's guys who will go out of their way to help ya...or they will refer you to a rep body shop/rebuilder type place who deals with them on a day to day basis. Just stay away from these little car-sale places...they're always sniffing the air for what you've found.
My best advice to you is to read, read, and read some more. You prob know more that the average guy on the street already. If you get into the archives of TC there's so much to learn from people who have beaten the path before you.
I'll bet that some on this site will get a hold of you and will help ya out eventually... seeing that you live in Cal... there's gotta be someone within driving distance to you?

Eric Kammerer Apr 9th, 08, 06:56 AM Is the car located where you are? I would just re-post, saying "any First-gen experts in Simi Valley?" (or wherever the car is) and explain you're looking for someone to do a ride along inspection.
We have a thread here somewhere about which members here are located where, but I can't find it. I know there are quite a few SoCal guys here though.
okiemark Apr 10th, 08, 12:03 AM thanks. I've looked into Camaro clubs and have found a couple in So. Cal. There is a cool one in San Jose (up north). Of course, I better actually buy one first!
DougP Apr 10th, 08, 06:24 AM Post a request to the TC membership to ask if anyone can stop by and take a look at the car -- another TC member and I went out to take a look at a car here in Maryland that one of our members in Seattle was interested in buying.
Blade Apr 10th, 08, 06:45 AM they dont have street rod tags in cali

Check out "Cool Running Camaros" out of Huntington Beach for advice... lots of smarts in that club I think.
