When I pull the lights on, the gas gauge falls to below empty. When they are off, it reads whatever it is going to read. Not sure of the accuracy, but it does register when the lights are off. Any suggestion on where to start. 1967 Camaro.

Hello, what about the ground wire at the sending unit?? Did you check that to see if its getting a good ground? I have seen that happen before! Jimi

Yeah, I can't disagree there.:)

I told my son (in a moment of frustration) that if I could, I'd trade it straight up for a Shelby Mustang (dreaming af course) if I had the chance. After I heard it the other day outside, my son asked me if I'd still make the trade. Without even looking away form the car, I said, "Nope."

Sending unit's fine, it's gonna be the ground at the gas gauge itself.
The gauge is pulling it's ground thru the illumination circuit, when the lights are on, no more ground!

I hate to ask, but what do I need to do to address this?

Hello,

I had the exact same problem. It's the ground wire to the guage cluster. If you cant find the original wire then just connect a wire to the back of the cluster and ground it. That should fix your problem.

Cool I know where that is (that little metal hoop). Ill try to snug down that screw first, otherwise, I'll run a new wire.

Problem solved. The center screw on the gauge housing (with the ground on it) was about to fall out. Tightened it up and the turn signal lights are off and the guages are nice and bright. I love the simple fixes.
