View Full Version : I think GM could sell these in the states!!
Joe Harrison Apr 9th, 08, 09:15 PM I wonder why GM keeps all the cool cheap stuff over seas. Pretty cool little cars that would get you around, save gas and have some performance also.
You will have to do a translation to read this but people seem to like the little car and my guess is that they are selling for about 18K American? Not to bad considering you get some style and performance with your good MPG.

Z15CAM Apr 10th, 08, 06:05 PM WOW! 2L DOHC 16 Valve, 12:1 Compression, 270Hp at 8500rpm Top Spd pending @ 254 km/h for 18 Grand, That's is NICE :o))
Bucco47 Apr 10th, 08, 06:26 PM easy to do over there when they don't have the same safety and smog requirements as us. I'm willing to bet that car is a lot lighter without the same reinforced doors that car has over here, etc and less smog restrictions on the powerplant.
DjD Apr 10th, 08, 06:33 PM Isn't it the same as a colbolt but on steroids?

X33D80 Apr 10th, 08, 06:47 PM Last year I was in New Zealand and saw that Ford still sells a car with the Falcon nameplate, and it is a nice looking car too. I wonder why they don't sell it here?

I wish I knew? It seems as though it uses a different engine than the Cobalt and the other pictures I could find make it look a little more boxy.
As for the safety stuff, from what I have been reading there are requirments that American cars can not meet from a safety stand point. One that comes to mind is pedristrian impact standards or something like that? From what I did read it limits them from selling over 4000 cars in any one country I guess. As for the emissions, I am not sure but you know the MPG has to be good as fuels of any type are expensive over there.
I don't mind GM selling little boxy cars but they could at least make them atractive and have a little fun in the box also.
jackr Apr 10th, 08, 10:23 PM That small red pickup that X33D80 posted? Today I saw a real similar vehicle with a chevy badge. It had Sonora Mexico plates on it, I lost it in traffic so couldn't snap a picture.

cool car, but it's a RACE CAR, and has about as much in common with a Chevy anyone can buy at a dealer for street use as the C6R Corvette race cars do with the street legal Z06.
i'm sure if you dig around, you will find pics of Cobalts in similar race trim.
am i the only one that noticed how much it looks like the new spec NASCAR race cars? it's got the same fugly wing, boxy bumpers, and splitter on the chin..

The other link had other information but it does not work anymore.....umm take you to the right place at the web site. It had stock ones on that link and were dressed up with mods from the race car. I am going out on limb here and saying it's using a pumped up Ecotec engine.
As I understand the Super Charged Ecotec was desinged by Lotus for GM, this is the engine in the super charged Saturn Sky and Soltice. The street versions over there are making more power. The only places I could find were all mainly Russian sites??? That have these and talked about and peformance. My translater in my browser made for some difficult reading so it was hard to tell if they are supercharged or not. In any case the Ecotec can make some power and still give some good MPG in a car that looks alright. I would rather spend my money on a get around car like one of these rather than a Focus or Aveo. The Cobalts that look good and have the power are priced to high. Funny that why I bought the wife a Stang vert with the v-6. Good price, fun car, returns 23 MPG in the city and up to 30 or so on the hwy. So far it's been an excellent car. To bad a person can't get the same from GM.

Lotus did a lot of the development work for the original Ecotec line. The supercharged EcoTec is no longer made--it's been replaced by a turbocharged direct-injection EcoTec.
