View Full Version : Whats a 69 like this worth...
thorpe67RS Apr 10th, 08, 05:42 PM First of all let me say no pics...sorry. But i am possibly interested in this 69 Camaro and was looking for other opinions vs my own on what its worth.
No engine or transmission.
12 bolt posi rear end.
Car is completely solid with no rust...and what little there was has been repaired properly. Floors, trunk, everything rock solid. Car is in primer. Essentially the body work is done on the car. The subframe, steering, suspension parts (including control arms) are still ugly and would need to be removed, stipped down and repainted or maybe even some parts replaced as neccessary.
The interior is there but needs to be redone..seats recovered etc...
Non SS, Non RS.
Basically its a solid rolling project car. Thoughts on what its worth from little info provided? I have my own idea but want to make sure im not way off base.
I have this unrelenting urge to find a nice 69 roller that i can stuff away for a rainy day when i have enough cash to finish it right and drop in a 502 with a TKO 600.
Eric Kammerer Apr 10th, 08, 07:18 PM $5k?
thorpe67RS Apr 11th, 08, 09:10 AM I would think it would be worth a fair amount more than that. Especially considering a Dynacorn shell goes for 13k. I was thinking 8-10k...considering the body work is done.
Eric Kammerer Apr 11th, 08, 09:33 AM I think things have cooled enough (and won't pick up again short term) where a project car without a motor or trans and was a V8 base car is not a $10K car right now.
Of course, I also think the market for the Dynacorn shells isn't going to be as strong as it was.
As always, just my opinions though...
okiemark Apr 11th, 08, 09:58 AM what does the cowl tag say? it could be an SS made in Van Nuys (?).
thorpe67RS Apr 11th, 08, 10:27 AM It is a Van Nuys car. 11D build date.
And Eric i hear ya on the value. Thats why i asked for opinions... im not completely sure in todays current market what a fair price to pay would be.
Eric Kammerer Apr 11th, 08, 01:14 PM Hopefully more people will provide input over the weekend :)
John510 Apr 11th, 08, 01:41 PM Id say 5-6. As far as you saying its solid with no rust... Was it blasted?
My car was "rock solid" until it was blasted:(
Microgiant Apr 11th, 08, 03:28 PM You should/could also consider the cost of the body and paint if a nice job was done.
khouse 69 x-11 Apr 11th, 08, 03:33 PM Around here you could get 10k all day if its solid
dsherw00d Apr 11th, 08, 03:47 PM Your looking at buying one of Bob's 69s? That one has been for sale for a while. I think it is at least the 3rd time it has been listed. I've actually thought about seeing if he wanted to take a partial trade of my 88 IROC convertible on it. Your not to far away, did you drive over an look? You do know that the car is on EBay with Pics if this is the same car - sure sounds like it with the same 11D build date and description.
I would think maybe $5-6k if this is the car. I think the 12 bolt rear is on mono springs as well which means it's not a 69. It's a basic V8 4 wheel drum manual brake car. They aren't selling like they were as evidence by how many times they are being listed over. Especially for the pre X code cars.
If it's not this car, I still think around $6k can buy a project base V8 69 Camaro.

Alright you busted me...i was trying to not show my hand so to speak. :D :D It is the car on ebay and was hoping to pick it up for a real deal since its been around a couple of times. Youre right..it is on mono leafs..i didnt pick up on that till you mentioned it. So far ive bid up to 5k and reserve is not met. A base V8 car is perfect for what my intentions are for it.
dsherw00d Apr 11th, 08, 05:09 PM Wasn't trying to bust you - thought maybe you were dealing directly with them:) I wonder if this is a customer car? Give him a call, I think he will tell you how much he is looking to get as it's for sale locally as well. I know one of his guys is on this board - I think the one who does fabrication and body work. If it's the one I met, very helpful and polite. He usually has a handful of 69s scattered around. I haven't visited the place in 4-5 months, but need to go back soon for more parts.
I just hate how they throw away the flat hood, put on a cowl, slap in a 12 bolt, and expect it to sell for a $5k more:( Heck, put the flat hood back on, keep the 12 bolt, and sell it for $5-6k. You might be able to negotiate this with him, especially if you are going to buy any parts from him.
Below are a couple of others that I've been watching, but can't buy another at this time:

OK69 Apr 12th, 08, 09:32 PM It's 10,000 all day long. Especially if the rest of the car is there. Gauges etc.. My buddy is selling 67's and 68's with straight bodies for 5-6k. Without much of anything else. He says a 69 brings 30-40% more.
thorpe67RS Apr 13th, 08, 06:09 AM Well i think im out of this one. $7600 and reserve not met. I thought if i could pick it up for a max of 7k it would be a real good deal. Doesnt look like thats gonna happen obviously. Which is probably good because while i would be happy to use a 69 Camaro for this project if the right deal/car came along.... I really want to do it with a 66 or 67 Chevelle.
Heres the auction if anyone cares to see where it ends up..

dsherw00d Apr 13th, 08, 07:31 AM I think you can find better deals looking through places like craigslist and racingjunk. EBay is not the best place if you want a fair price. I've bought a bunch of cars and only bought one of those on EBay that I thought was a fair price.
Eric Kammerer Apr 13th, 08, 07:44 AM They want $11K. Two years ago, no prob. Now?
al8apexer Apr 13th, 08, 11:48 AM what does the cowl tag say? it could be an SS made in Van Nuys (?).
it is a Van Nuys car ... there is NO x codes on Van Nuys trim tags ....

only because of the popularity of the 69 models. There are more of those since they made them in 68,69,and 1970. My heart will always be with the 67 Camaros NO MATTER what percentage numbers say!
thorpe67RS Apr 13th, 08, 08:44 PM Well it sold for about what i thought it was probably worth. I had originally said it was probably worth 8-10k. And i was hoping to buy it for less...oh well. I enjoy the search as much as anything...and it continues.

Keep looking there out there! Just today I was taking with my friend and I brought up a 67RS and he said lets go pass by .. I ended up passing by the Parked 67 RS thats just sitting there and 2 69 Chargers. Looks like they are in the "im gonna fix it up sometime in this life time club" !
