I have done a complete frame off restoration on my 69 camaro and have one problem, the left front flasher flashes all the time when the batt. is hooked up, and the left indicator on the dash also flashes. Only the left front not the left rear or the right side. The detent does not work on the emergency flashers so you must hold the knob in to make the rest of the emergency flashers flash. The only time the left front doesn't flash with the batt. hooked up is when you remove the flasher unit from the fuse panel. The turn signals do not work either, I thought this might be because the emergency flasher is flashing? Everything has been off of the car, disassembled and rebuilt so could be anything. Any help would be appreciated.

thats a new one but lets take a stab at 'ground'. for the fun of it, run a wire to a bolt that is solid grounded to the frame, then touch it to the bulb wire brass connector and see if it stops. something is back feeding that light. Also try the 12v stick light in-between the battery neg. and its cable end disconnected. If the light is on when key is "off" there is a power drain somewhere that is feeding that light. Pull fuses one at a time till the stick light goes out, now you know which part of the system has a power leak.
Im betting ground tho... it always does weird things when a system has a flaw in the grounds. When you did restore, did you use star washers for grounds on the body near the battery on the lip of the fender? Is regulator and horn relay grounded?

If you read my post a few down in this forum ("Lost my front blinkers") I learned that the front blinkers begin with the Blue/Dk Blue wires (I forget which one is left/right) coming off the turn signal switch.
The turn signals aren't supposed to begin working unless the key is in the "on" position. Therefore, a hot signal (or crossed wire) is feeding power to one of those blue wires.
Not saying that's exactly it - it could be a lot of things. I'm just offering what little info I learned this past weekend. Good luck.

I checked the grounds last night, all have the star washer under them. I ran a jumper wire from the - batt. to the ground by the volt. regulator, ground behind the batt., ground at the fender by the batt., and also grounded the base of the volt regulator. I also ran the jumper wire to the base of the bulb that is flashing, nothing. I didn't get a chance to do the test lamp between the - cable and - terminal. I will give that a try tonight.

I finally had time to work on my car and thought that I would complete this thread with the outcome. It was the turn signal switch, not the turn signal part but the switch for the emergency flashers. One side of the switch goes to left front and the other side of the switch goes to the right side. The switch for the drivers side was broken and stuck in the on position. Now emergency flashers and turn signals work correctly.
