I attended alittle car gathering at the local "advance auto parts store" ... and there was a Mopar guy sitting next to his roadrunner sitting on his lawn chair and he yelled out "What year is that Junk" !! I wanted to go and sit him on his @ss after a comment like that , I mean what kind of comment / question is that ?? What nerve this @#$#@ has! I get crap all the time from my friends who tell me I need to paint it and stuff, I just tell them that the paint is the last thing on my mind ... I've made sure that it is mechanically road worthy !! Everything works , my Hide-a-way lights, my horn, lighter, wippers, EVERYTHING ... Shes a driver!

I was the only 1st gen there btw:(. And I think only 1 or 2 people guessed it wright, that my car is a 67 ! I had about 8 people saying "68??" and I had 2 people ask if it was a 69? Thank God nobody asked if it was a Mustang:mad:

heres a Picture of My Junk ..........

:boxing: You should have challenged him to a boxing match at the car show. I think your car is looking pretty good. Take your time and do things the way you want. You will be happier with it that way.

Robert the hobby has some extremely arrogant people in it today. The majority of them have never put a tool to their car, they simply go out and purchase someone elses blood, sweat and tears. So they have no idea what goes into building or restoring a car like you or I. You've got a great 67 and with every project you complete on it the pride you'll have of having done it yourself is something the Mopar A&S will never know for himself.

Like U2 sings "Don't let the ba$tard$ get you down".

Robert - you are being too sensitive, your friends give you a bad time because they like you and the Mopar stranger most likely just wanted to talk. There are a few modern day classic owners that take brand loyality too far but most admire the other flavors but love a little old school banter. These cars have out lived the days of feuding over brand loyality but I love to give my Mustang buddy a bad time, in return he bugs me about how long it takes some of my projects... Again all in fun! :beers:

Keep in mind a lot of gearheads refer to their car as "their junk", it's meant affectionatly

hey guys thanks for the compliments ... yeah your right my friends are good buddies of mine who give me crap all the time ... and If I need help on anything they are just 7 digits and 5 mins away. Sometimes I hear too much crap from them that I just get tired of hearing it.

and the whole Junk lingo talk at car shows, if thats how people talk then I need to learn the slang. I know I mumble alot of words in my head when Im next to a car but I never say it out loud. :noway:

Love what the "Mopar" stood for ! LOL that was great.

For some reason mopar guys are really defensive. lol
I'll second that, as well as arrogant.
The reason I say this is because a few of their cars sell for gobs of money, but so do Camaro's they just think because they own a Mopar that it is "the" Mopar. If you understand what I am saying.
Then again a good friend of mine owns a Dart, he is cool though.

one definitely needs to be quick-witted and thick-skinned to play in this hobby
another quick come-back would have been: "the 'ol girl runs so fast I can't keep paint on her" :beers:

It doesn't matter what people say these junks are OUR JUNKS!! and they are way better in our minds they really can't say anything because we put the time and effort to fix these things and to make them into our own vision of heaven!!! I Know some Mopar people actually put time and effort into their cars too but we try the most out of everybody. Besides my junk is way worse than yours BUT IM AM STILL PROUD OF IT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT NO MATTER WHAT ITS ALWAYS GONNA BE MY JUNK AND NOBODY ELSES!!! IT TAKES TIME AND PATIANCE TO FIX THESE CARS BUT AT THE END ITS ALL WELL WOTH IT.:beers:

Robert, I've driven more cars that look like yours than I ever did slick stuff. The real fun is workin' on 'em and drivin' ,Right?. You could have said, smiling
and looking at his ride, " It's a 67, Anybody get killed in that wreck?" Good chance you'd both got a laugh.:D:yes:

Got to hand it to you Rob, that you didn't get down to his level, and get into a shouting match... or worse! The guy could have been pulling yer chain, and having a bit of fun with you...I do it all the time at meets, but I also let them know that I'm kidding. Even on this site I make references to "Rustangs", eh? But only in fun.

We are pretty proud of our breed of car, but have to roll with the words as pointed out.

Remember we make ourselves angry, but when we let others do it to us... we give them the power, right?

It's looking good Robert. Keep at it. I like the fact that your priority is a mechanicly sound car. The rest will come...

I've always been amused by those weird guys who are overly loyal to one brand of car. I was putting air into my tires once at a gas station and this older white trash guy pulled up in a ratty Ford minivan that was missing half of it's grill. He comes over and asks what year my Camaro is and then says, "Those Camaro's were always junk. A Ford is much better."

I started laughing and said, "You came up to a perfect stranger to tell him that is car is junk? Thanks for the advice. You're right, what was I thinking buying a car like this? I'll sell it immediately and by a nice Ford like the one you have over there." He got mad and walked away.

I find those guys are generally attention whores.
If he's close, I'd move a few spot away. (treat him like the plague)
Ignoring them generally hurts the most.
Any real aknowledgment to their existance, and they've won.

Just smile and pretend he's not there, (watch him get frustrated)

I attended alittle car gathering at the local "advance auto parts store" ... and there was a Mopar guy sitting next to his roadrunner sitting on his lawn chair and he yelled out "What year is that Junk"...

That is when you should've quietly walked over, gave his car a thorough look over and said;

"I dunno, looks like a [insert appropriate year here] to me, am I close?"

one good joke deserves another in my mind. be quick and with a smile :D teeth showing :D

I had a similar thing happen, my spur of the moment repsonse was, "Don't know much about cars, huh?"

I all ready to get mad, but it actually worked out pretty good, the guy the just sputtered while his girlfriend/wife was laughing.

As Dennis mentioned, "Junk" has become a slang term used to talk about ones personal belongings ie.. motorcycle, tools, cars, garage stuff in general. Since none of us were there it's hard to say if the guy was being a jerk or just using the junk and trying to be cool. You hear it used in the street racing and drag racing circles a lot. If he said "piece of junk" then, that's a whole different story.

If I saw your Camaro in a lot I would admire it.

They even sell those scale model "barn find" Camaros and people who know buy them right up!

EDIT: Dont think your car wont get stolen because it isnt painted yet though. Ive heard someones was stolen out of a locked garage and it didnt even have a motor in it!

Robert, very nice looking car, this is coming from someone who is looking to buy any first gen!

By the way Dennis when I say "my junk" I'm referring to something else, more personal, if you get my drift...Isn't there a song out lately about a woman who has "a lot of junk in her trunk"??

LOL .. you guys are great, I love this site.

When I posted this I was more angry than anything but now that I've read alot of comments I have a smile on my face. I wont take anything serious or take it to heart at any car show or any comment towards my car. I know what I have, I know how it runs. And I certainly know for a fact that it is NOT junk!!

^^^^ BTW Brian ^^^^ hows it going, Good to hear from ya.! a.k.a. Buenymayor, is the only member on the board that I've met in person so far ... Great down to earth guy !

Sorry Man, but this the exact same reason I can't do car shows anymore. My Wick is much too short to deal with some of these tools and their comments. I doubt anybody can understand what your car means to you except you.
