Gentlemen,

I posted this last night in the transmission section, but did not get an answer so I am trying here. As I know this is probably a dumb question, however, how does an original hurst shifter handle attach to the actual shifter? Everything was in pieces when I started this restoration. Thanks for any help as I am trying to install it today.

If it is OEM, there should be a clip inside the shifter "extension" that will grab the hole in the handle and secure it. You just slide the handle into the hole until it snaps. If that piece is missing, you can probably get a replacement from Hurst...check with them.

If it's an aftermarket piece, they were usually bolted on. Also aftermarket shifters have an adjustment bolt in the rear, that the OEM ones do not have.

Thanks unreal. That is what i thought. The shifter and plates are original. They were refurbished and I cannot seem to get the handle to slide in. I tried using WD 40 and it goes almost all the way on then stops. I have taken it back out of the car and am using a lot of push and it still will not go on. I hate forcing it too much. Any idea what else I can try? Thanks
