Hi. if you've had a good experience with turn key crate motor purchase I'd appreciate the lead and reference. I want to drive the car this summer and need to swap my tired 350 that's leaking from every gasket.

Need to keep it simple and just want to drop in a turnkey motor, small block around 400HP. Thanks.

Any of the GM crate motors are good. ZZ4 350 Turn key # 12499712 unless you want a ZZ383. 12498772. Can't go wrong, they all carry a national GM warranty. You can get a good deal from Scoggin Dickey.

I did the GMPP 350/330 HO from Scoggin-Dickey and am very pleased with it. Pretty much just bolted tranny in, mounted fuel pump, added some pulleys and fired it up. Pretty nice little package and fairly economical to boot.

I too have heard good things about GMPP crate motors. I'd still select clearance the main/rod bearings and check the valve seat run-out however. Probably need some minor machine work done on the valve seats (most do). This is if you really want a motor that runs "nice".

Or you can stab'n'steer it too :)

i bought the zz4 motor and added a better cam to it. so it went from 355 hp to 420hp it runs good and got plenty of power for me on the street and driveable. unless you want to race it only. than different story. shop around for price tho it differences alot. for same motor it costs 3500 to 5000 for same motor.

The benefit of a crate motor is that they come with warranties usually. But, an engine builder could give you one as well.

I would recommend doing the research, learning more, and putting your own engine together. Crate engines will always have corners cut here or there for manufacturer profits. Often they have outdated and obsolete parts. It is easy to pick a crate from a catalog. It is a lot harder to build your own engine. I can't imagine not doing everything on my car myself and saving a ton of money. Of course, I also read and study about cars online and in real life for at least an hour or more a day.

I bought a 383 from www.jonbarrett.com for a friends 92 Camaro and 6 years later its still a force to be reckoned with. lol. Jon was my neighbor for a few years. great guy. 2 Man shop and the engines are built to your specs by him. Barry White the guy that builds super cars on TV speed channel uses his motors exclusively. Jon has set numerous records with is engines at Bonneville, and several race tracks, road and drag.

I have done a few 260 horse GMPP motors and added a Comp 268 H cam. They Thump, have a warranty, cost less that the 290 horse even with the cam and can be delivered to your door by your local smilin' chevy dealer
