Go to the local PD and inquire there. They do alot of soldering there and know what to do. While they are at it, they will solder you a new set of bracelets too.

Enjoy...

There is no way around the system without the key. A locksmith can get the needed key pellet information once you provide your proof of ownership.

actually, a resistor with the correct value soldered into the vats circuit will negate the nessecity of the chip in the key...the chip in the key is actually a resistor...the tumbler has 2 little "fingers" that read the chip when inserted into the tumbler...if you have an incorrect resistance, or in your case, no resistance, the car wont run...you can get the correct key, as david said, at a locksmith with your registration and id, or at the local chevy dealer...also do a search on www.thirdgen.org for bypassing vats...they will have a full write-up on the procedure...(not stepping on any toes, david)

Tanker,
If you go to the dealer with proof of ownership, they should be able to make you a key. That will be cheaper and easier in the long run than trying to "trick" the computer. Plus that way the anti theft will still work. Why not fix it right ?????

I agree. I had to do this for my 94 Corvette. They called in the VIN and got the code. Had a new key made in no time at all.

FYI...
I am an auto theft investigator and don't agree with telling anyone how to bypass the VATS system. That is why my reply was blunt. To me,if someone wanted to fix a car they should do it properly and not to bypass the security system. This makes it easier to steal and costs everyone on their insurance every year. Don't get me wrong..I know you are trying to help but how do we know he owns the car you just taught him to bypass ? He stated he bought a new ignition, so why didn't he purchase a new VATS module and key with the correct ohm's chip in the key blade?

David and Bill....
Thanks for the correct replies :) We all pay for the wrong doings of others and although it keeps me working, I would rather not tell them how to bypass the systems.
Thanks again..

you cannot buy a new ignition with a vats in it ..they offer one with a bypass wire which is what i bought..i already figured the problem out i had to get the right res like u said..also i didnt fix it right due to the fact i dont have that much extra cash laying around... im 21 and just working on my car
