After several weeks of attempting to replace a freeze plug (by the engine mount of course:mad: I've managed to borrow a friends engine lift / crane.

Where can I attach this beast in order to not damage the engine? I'm wanting to lift the engine one or two inches in order to get the mount off the block so I can put a freeze plug in (rubber). I plan to pull the engine in the fall for a rework so I'll do the proper freeze plugs at that time.

She's a 327 w/ac, 1967.

I'd build a pan flange "U"-box and lift my engine up using my small floor jack and have at it.

Or even a 10"x10" block of 2x10 on the pan itself, CAREFULLY!!

I figure I can R&R a bad freezeplug in about 3 hours or so depending on when beer time starts afterwards!!

I looked at the oil pan scenario. About half the post / replies I received / read said it would crush the oil pan, half said it would be fine. I was afraid Murphy would visit and I'd be in the "crushed" half.

Any thoughts on where to hook the lift at to lift the engine up and inch or two?

Use the engine hoist. Just keep an eye on the distributor esepecially if it is an HEI or big cap. The clearance will get close on the firewall. Also watch that the fan doesn't go through the radiator.

With all the work you are about to do, I would just do it right and get some brass freeze plugs. You should be able to get the engine in and out over a weekend. While it is out you can fix any other hard to reach areas like motor mounts, oil pan gasket, etc.
