Hello, I'm a newbie to restoration of a car. I purchase a project car that was media blasted and now it has surface rust and visible areas where the rust has eaten through sheet metal. How should I prepare the exposed metal? My plan for painting will be in a couple of years due to funding of the project. Any tips and info would be greatly appreciated.
Thx
Randy

They sell a product at the auto paint stores called "Metal Conditioner" or "Metal Prep". You mix according to the label and put it in a squirt bottle. Spray it on, wait a few minutes and wipe it off. Takes the rust right off and leaves a finish that doesn't rust as easy.

Make sure all the surface rust is removed and spray everything with a coat or 2 of good quality epoxy primer. Epoxy isn't pourus like regular primer so you won't have to worry about it rusting under the primer. You can also apply your body filler right over the top of the epoxy primer when your at that stage.
