Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the cylinder key positions on a 1969 Camaro are:

LOCK - ACC - ON -START

or

ACC - LOCK - ON - START

Thanks

Actually you guys missed one additional position.

Rotating the key CCW: START, RUN, OFF, OFF-LOCK, ACCESSORY

The ignition switch itself has a spring that kicks you out of START and back to RUN. There are detents in the switch for all of the other positions.

The lock cylinder requires that you push in on the key in order to go from OFF-LOCK to ACCESSORY.

The steering column has a blocker inside the column head that requires the lower lever on the column to be rotated to the full UP position in order to rotate your ignition key from OFF to OFF-LOCK. (The linkage from the transmission pushes the lever full UP when you shift into REVERSE with an automatic or into REVERSE with a manual shift.

Isn't there a rule against trick questions on this board?

Don't mean to Hi-Jack but this thread seems to apply.

My 70Z / Muncie w/Hurst has the same Ignition Switch as a 69. The reverse lock out rod has been removed because of header installation and the column shaft lever is bolted in the up position to prevent it from falling down and locking the wheel. I've always had a very tough time rotating the key from OFF or say OFF-LOCK to ACCESSORY even when pushing in on the key. The Key works fine CW to OFF/RUN/START but extremely stiff CCW from say OFF LOCK to ACCESSORY. I have checked and adjusted the Ignition Switch and Rod from the Key dozens of times and confident it is well with in Specs. The binding seems elusive as the Ignition Switch works independently as does the Key Cylinder when not connected to the Ignition Switch and the Rod does not feel as if it is jamming whether it is loose or connected to the Ignition Switch. It almost feels as if there is NO Detent for the ACCESSORY position and you are working against a spring and this may be normal; on the other hand I am wondering if I'm scrubbing that blocker inside the column head that requires the lower lever on the column to be rotated to the full UP position in order to rotate your ignition key from OFF to OFF-LOCK. If this is the case: Were is it? - or advise me if you have an idea.

If I don't get a response I will Post a Thread - Thanks
