Does the GM Slatter Paint in the spray can look good or should I bite bullit and get trunk sprayed by paint shop that has larger nozzle?

The spray can looks like a tighter splatter than original.

Also, I primed trunk with gray primer so will the splatter paint look OK over this or should I paint trunk aqua or other color first?

Thanks

I think the rattle can from GM works very well. Spray it over a dark base to get a more correct look. I did mine over gray and the finish is just too light...

I slathered on POR-15 grey and then shot it with a rattle can splatter paint and then hit it with a semi-gloss clear coat to protect the finish. I am happy with the finish.

I used Eastwoods trunk spatter rattle can paint. For all the info on what I did click on the link below.

I did the POR gray then spray can of splatter and I like the look, somewhat lighter than original I think . 2 Cans of splatter then 3 coats of spray Clear Coat as that splatter will squish and smear if wet and not clear coated.

This was what a half can of the GM spatter looks like over grey and to compare the coctail shaker was black. The black base is much closer to correct. I also used a matt clear for durability...

Why is it that splatter paint gets all nasty and soft when wet..... who's brilliant idea was that ????

Other than making it possible to clean it up, what other purpose does that serve ???

Good question doc, must be the chemicals necessary to make it globby when it comes out so it does 'splatter' when it hits.
Here is the POR gray look which is noticeable lighter than DjD's trunk which is closer to original.

Thanks everyone I will go with dark base. Would a black primer work as good as RamJams 3M Rubberized undercoating?

I don't see why not, black is black.. The reason for the under color to be black is so you don't have to use as much expensive spatter paint to cover it. Good luck!

Spatter paint is water based and will soften and lift when wet (for those who are not aware). It has to be clear coated and there is a spray can of clear to do this. I used two cans of spatter and two cans of clear. Mine came out very nice and original looking. I did it over a DP90 base (black).

My trunk looks great. I used the Black Rubberized Undercoating as base, followed by spatter paint.

I couldn't be happier!

Thanks all.

Speaking of trunks, I guess this is as good a place to ask as any....

I have a mystery bracket in my trunk that I never seem to see in others... it's a '69 plain Joan coupe. Directly in the middle of the flat area right behind the backseat seperation is a small V shaped bracket. The legs of the V are maybe an inch, inch and a half long each and the point faces the trunk. There's a hole in the center of it. Was this to hold the jack? I can't remember seeing one of these brackets before, or anything attached up there in the flat space.
Pray tell, what could it be?

The jack mast will fit in that bracket. The tire holds the whole shebang down.

Has anyone tried Zolotone for their trunk paint? Our fire trucks have it sprayed in the compartments, stuff seems tuff as nails.

I used Zolatone for my 67 Z project car. I really like the way it turned out--texture and color very close to original, and it appears super resilient. I used a body shutz gun to shoot it. I bought a quart from Larry Christensen at Camaros Plus 303-278-8536.

I used Zolatone, and I like the results. However, it is somewhat darker than originals.
My painter had problems spraying it, and he ended up using a samd blaster, of all things! Turned out great.

Sounds good, I was talking to the owner of www.alexisfire.com (http://www.alexisfire.com) and he told me I could buy enough to paint both of our camaro trunks from him. I'm not concerned with orignal color, I like how tuff the stuff is.
