Hi all

I am trying to draw up reference picture for the vacuum Headlights in a 68. I am going to try and write a troubleshooting guide to post. I'm out of state and not by my car so I cannot reference the details of my hoses. ( which are working)
What I need clarification on is.

1.Hoses from the Acuator Relay to the Acuators. Are the colors and placement ( green to back and Red to front on the acuators) correct.

2.Are the Green/Red hoses on the Acuator relay correct or reversed?

3. On the headlight switch, is the yellow hose coming from the acuator
relay connected to the port closest to the firewall or away from the
firewall.

I have found conflicting drawings on the Internet and want to make sure I have the correct placement of the hoses.
I want to try and write a Step by Step troubleshooting guide for members to reference when I am done. I'll then modify and include the 69 also.

Thanks
Ray

Have you seen what we have here for the '69? http://www.camaros.net/techref/articles/ftecref001.html

My understanding is the '68 has 2 ports on the tank as you have shown. If you trace yours out and then trace ours out you see it does the same thing... As for the red and green on the actuators I opted to stay with the documentation (AIM and Chassis Service Manual) although it seems they have to be reversed to work.

I've been meaning to do the same drawing for a '68 but have not gotten around to it as well don't have the '68 books for reference. If you are interested, use a copy of our existing drawing and edit it to reflect the '68 system, match up to the '68 AIM for further reference and I would be glad to add it as your contribution to what we have.

Thanks DjD

I will take you up on your offer to use your drawing. I hope to work up some kind of troubleshooting flow chart and explanation of how the whole vacuum system works. Kind of a Theory of Operation and breakdown of each component function. I'm going to work up a best effort at how to make checks and pinpoint where he problem is when the system does not work. This is my first attempt at something like this so I will consider it a work in progress with hopefully some feedback from forum members to improve the technique. I know I fought my headlights for a month or so to finally get them to work and will try to pass that info on to other members. The theory and trouble shooting should apply to 68 and 69 as there are a few minor differences but overall main operational components are the same and the trouble shooting should be similar.

Thanks
Ray

Cool Ray, be sure to follow the link to the tech article we have and read through what's there. It was a collaboration of a couple members and myself and may save you a lot of work with your write-up.
