Can you make them work?Or do I have to buy the multi leaf plates? Z06vette Apr 14th, 08, 09:07 PM U could probably make them work, but the multi leafs are heavier and I think would make a better setup. The U bolts that come with those springs are pretty big. Scott 67CamaroRS/SS Apr 15th, 08, 07:33 AM I am in the process of making the same switch to multi's, but I have a 67 and non staggered shocks so would I be stuck with using mono shock plates? I don't think there is a way to use multi plates because 67's never came with staggered shocks so if I used multi plates, I wouldn't be able to install the shock on one side, right? Any suggestions? I didn't mean to hijack the thread. Eric Kammerer Apr 15th, 08, 08:16 AM Jim - It really depends on the springs. When I installed the generic 5-leaf replacements in my vert, I could not use the mono shocks and plates because they were at full extension long before full droop, and they were at full compression before the axle bumpers were contacted. Multi-leaf shocks are a little longer, and the multi-leaf anchor plates mount them just a little higher, so that was what I needed. On a car with lowering springs like Hotchkis, I can see being able to use mono-leaf anchor plates and shocks, just because there is not as much arch. Charlie - Detroit Speed has multi-leaf style anchor plates for 67s. Or you can fab your own. tgifford5 Apr 15th, 08, 08:31 AM As stated earlier the multi's are beefier. I did this swap on my 69 this winter when I changed to a 12 bolt. My mono's fit and would have worked, but I have 9.5" TTIIs which were to close to the mono shock mount ears. So I switched to multi's. The mounting for the shock is an 1-1 1/2" higher up to the axle which gave me enough clearance. So if you don't have wide rims or not planning on getting wide rims it might be a shot. I did have to change shocks also. Even though they might have worked. One was shot. edhjohnb Apr 15th, 08, 08:47 AM FYI, I just installed Hotchkis lowering springs on my 67 and I ended up ordering the mono leaf shock plates from DSE (part #040302L and 040302R) since a prior owner of my car had installed multi-leafs and put in 2nd gen shock plates (and shocks!) JcGc Apr 15th, 08, 09:16 AM Yes, the mono plates will work. I just completed this same set up on my 69 Camaro. You have to drill the spring perch and mount plates holes out with a 5/8 drill bit to alow the u bolts to fit. I used a step bit and it worked great. I have some pictures I can post when I get home from work. 1NASTY69Z Apr 15th, 08, 05:56 PM Thanks for the info guys, its much appreciated...I have a big project ahead of me with this car,and I hope to atleast have it running and the bottom of the car done by summer.Original paint (Fathom Green) 6cyl/glide car off e-bay for $3800:D...Its going to be a sbc,Tremmec 5spd,12 bolt car now.I also have the Hotchkis 2 inch drop springs, and front sway bar for it too.I will try and post some pics later. Thanks again. mikebrow74 Apr 22nd, 08, 12:42 PM So can a '67 be retrofitted to a staggared shock configuration? I have a '75 Nova 10-bolt 8.5 posi I'm putting together. It was a mono-leaf setup but I will be cutting those pearches off and welding on new 68-69 multi-leaf pearches. I'm buying stock 68-69 multi-leaf springs and U-bolts. Are the upper shock mounts in the same location on the 67 vs the 68-69? Can I get staggered shocks on my 67 by simply changing to 68-69 lower shock mounts and either using 2" shock extenders or buying 68-69 shocks? 67CamaroRS/SS Apr 23rd, 08, 07:54 AM Here are the plates I am going to use. http://www.detroitspeed.com/productpages/indproduct/rearsuspensionprod/lower_shock_plates_prod_test.htm |
