View Full Version : WIW - 1969 rs/ss on ebay
bosco4317 Apr 15th, 08, 01:37 PM Was looking through E-bay and found a car pretty close to home. Called and spoke to the owner. He told me that he bought the car from two guys who were planning on drag racing the car. AT the time it was in primer and needed alot of finish work. The car is supposed to have been garnet red w/ a black vinyl top.
Says the car was never tubbed and the floors are solid, no patches. Also says he still has the console. I asked about the huge vacuum canister and was told the car had a very wild cam with 4.56 gears when he bought it and the canister was added by the previous owners. Gears have since been reduced to 3.73's and a much milder cam installed. New multi-leaf rear with 12 bolt posi also installed by previous owners.
I asked about the trim tag and was told that at some point when the firewall was refinished the tag was removed and he has never seen it. Went on to say he was thinking about buying "one of those replacement tags" but he did not know all the information about the car to put on the tag so he didn't bother.
Also the headlight doors do not work and need the hardware.
I am going to look at this car on Thursday and would appreciate ANY thoughts and replies about this car.

In case the link doesn't work the auction number is #110243480083, Thanks
3forme Apr 15th, 08, 03:13 PM It should have SS emblems instead of RS emblems for one thing which should make you think right there. Maybe its just an RS?
click Apr 15th, 08, 03:19 PM With only a VIN and no paperwork he is really stretching to say it is SS/RS. A true SS would have SS badged all over it like Vince said.
Never seen a tank on the passenger side inner fender like that before, its not a camaro part. Im betting a standard RS that maybe had a 350 in it. Without original engine or papers, Id never pay SS/RS price for it thats for sure.
Eric Kammerer Apr 15th, 08, 03:20 PM I don't see anything that indicates it is a true RS either. No vacuum lines to the front lights, no headlight washer solenoid on the wiper motor, reverse lamps in rear valance are crooked and appear to be a non-OE install, no washer jar on passenger fender, and I'd bet it does not have the OE vacuum tank on the driver side.
Nothing to indicate a big block car. Heater core in SB position.
Decent looking, but not a $27K car.
GMJoe Apr 15th, 08, 03:22 PM Its a good lookin car from the pics but it appears to have a small block heater core so probably never was a big block car
click Apr 15th, 08, 03:24 PM Even the front grille RS is not centered, its too high. Highly questionable all around.
thorpe67RS Apr 15th, 08, 03:56 PM I agree. I would venture to guess that its base coupe with RS added. Hideaway doors are out of whack and back up lights in the rear are definitely off as well. Not even sure where the SS comes in... let alone a BBC. Its a nice looking car but i would go into it with the mindset of paying for it as if its a base coupe.
bosco4317 Apr 15th, 08, 06:09 PM First of thanks for all the replies.
I was assuming that this was a clone since there was nothing to prove otherwise. I still want to go look at the car just for the heck of it.
I am not interested in number matching since I am looking to change the interior of the car, add AC, and probably put a 4 speed in. What I am looking for is a solid base car, something that can be driven and then modified over time. I do like the RS look, so that is a plus. I am going to see if the owner will let me pull one of the reverse lights to look for a hack job. Pictures always look good, but I really need to see the car in person.
I am guessing that the vacuum tank can be removed. If the car is in the shape the owner claims what would a fair price be in todays market?
BigBlock1969RS Apr 15th, 08, 08:04 PM I'd want to look "under the covers" and see how much rust is present. But I would say being that the car isn't an original BB nor SS and probably not even a RS that it is overpriced by about 10k.
OK69 Apr 15th, 08, 09:58 PM Seems like more and more cars don't have a trim tag, or its not attached to the car.
RamAirDave Apr 15th, 08, 10:08 PM Sure its a car you could probably drive and have a lot of fun with, but there are no signs of it being a true RS/SS BB car, so theres no reason to pay the price for one IMO.
bosco4317 Apr 16th, 08, 01:59 AM Spoke with the owner and the car is a Norwood car, 350 in car is a 4-bolt main.

So, somewhere around 16.5K? Any other opinions?
Jonesy Apr 16th, 08, 05:49 AM That car sits way too high. The auction is at $18,600 which is tops for that car from what I see. The pics dont tell the whole story here.
