My freind and I are doing some detail work on his 1969 SS/RS 396 ragtop and need to get a correct carb for it and wanted to make sure that we get a corectly dated carb. The original block was assembled on 6-19-69 and the car is a 07A car. What do you think is a good time frame to look for a carb within. I've been told in the past that anything within three months to the build date of the car is ok. Does that still stand true. I've got another friend with a 1969 SS/RS 396 coupe with all the original equipment that has pretty close dates to the cars build dates. I think that his car was a 05A car and the block, intake and several other parts are cast the week before. I know that a carb is just a bolt on item so I figured that it could possible differ a little more. Any help you have on this would be greatly apprecieated. Thanks guys.

Jesse,

The 325 and 350 horse carbs (Rochester Q-jet) will be within a few days to a week or two before the car assembly date (07A in your case), and the 375 horse (Holley carb) will be within a month or two (typically), although a wider spread on this carb has been observed.

My original SS Camaro 396/325Hp was assembled T1212JB and original carb is 29215EH dated 3398, hope this helps.

Thanks for the great information guys I really appreciate it. This is exactly the information I needed to make sure that we get the correct carb. I think that I got the three month thing from when I was hunting for the Holley for my 375hp car. Carmine, what is the build date on your car and how does the 3398 break down into the date. I'm not to familiar with the Q-jet carb dates and I'd like to see how they compare. Thanks again I appreciate it. Jesse

how does the 3398 break down into the date.

It's a Julian date code, making it the 339th day of 1968

Cool! Another EH carb that confirms http://www.camaros.org/carb.shtml#_ftn8. You don't see many L35 manual cars with original carbs.....

Thanks guys. I was kind of wondering if that wasn't how it broke down. I just wanted to make sure. I guess the hunt is on for one of these Q-Jets. Would anyone of you guys know where I might be able to find something like this dated near a 07A Camaro with a 4 speed? I'd appreciate any help you guys might have in locating one. I'm checking into one place I've heard of but any other options would be great too. Have a great weekend guys.

Car build date is 12B. 339 is Dec.4 if I calculated it right.
Also wanted to mention my L78 with build date 2D has also the born with 4346 holley dated 913.
