hey eveyone got another problem. i just finished installing my restored console. i bought all new rose wood for it and the shift pattern thing, you know the works including the metal door and ash tray lid. any how, its very hard to shift! the rubber seals that go on each side of the shifter damn near hold the shifter in place, i have to really yank on it to get it to shift. has anyone ran in to this problem? i think im just going to trim a little bit off of the rubber or use the old seals, they are kind of beat up but they shift good. thanks alot.

Yeah, Me Too!!! I am a bit confused as usual, though. Your blurb says '69, and '69's just have a hole in the tunnel for the shifter so this won't happen. My '68, 4 speed console is a bitch. I bought all the new stuff, too. The rubber piece that goes over the shifter handle lasted about 3 minutes, couldn't even move the shifter. The black plastic slider was real stiff, so I trimmed the sides a bit, maybe a bit too much. Now, if I shift fast, the plastic slider pops out of the console and jam's the shifter. Also, I had to move the console rearward 2" to clear the "replacement" Comp Plus. Should have moved it back another half inch, now, in forth, the slider goes too far back, and jams on the front of the hole!! I think I'm gonna just throw the slider away and leave it with a hole in the console and the OEM rubber floor boot underneath. I might try to adapt a '69 shifter tunnel piece to close off some of the hole.

No wonder I'm confused, you're talking automatic, aren't you? Oh well.

You shouldn't have to trim them! Mine went on just fine... Did you have to punch the rubber out so they would fit on the studs? If so maybe you just need to clean up the holes. Also remove the rubber and put it together and see if it is still hard to shift. I bet it's the shifter itself.

I bought some about a year ago and they were very tight at first. They now seem to be just fine. I really haven't driven it that much either as I'm redoing the gauges and carpet. I bet I only put on 250 miles since replacing the console parts.
