I have a complete gearvender overdrive unit , it was behind a turbo 400 , it has about 4000 miles on it . Does anybody know what this thing would be worth to sell .

is that the one that replaces the tail housing on the transmission? do you think it would work behind a muncie? if so i don't think its worth anything and you should just give it to me :) but on the serious side i think those things sell for 2.5k new? i would think you could get a least grand for it if its in great shape.

Why not keep it and install it ? From what I hear, it is tough to beat that setup.

He's got three pedals now .... :)

Mark, you don't see many for sale used, but they seem to go between $1,300 and $1,600. Here's a recent one off ebay that's pretty comparable.

From what I understand Gear Vendors bought out Laycock. These were OD units used in European cars like Volvo, Jaguar ...etc. I've owned Volvo's 123 GT, 140 S and 240 GL with the M45 and M46 with the Laycock OD and there are great. I never blew them up no matter how I abused them - I did a lot of Rallies. The Volvo Crank shaft weight almost as much as a SBC crank and I've geared down into 2nd from 80 MPH @ 6500 rpm many times. Not saying I've never ashed a clutch but never the tranny or OD unit. As a matter of fact the Volvo M45 out of a 74 240 Volvo, although a Top loader, is almost identical to the Muncie if not stronger as the casing is steel and will accept a Chev 11" clutch disk. The input shaft is also identical to the Muncie and fits a Chev pilot bearing - so you know what I'm thinking and even more so now with the price of gasoline escalating every day. I'm a HWY and Road Course guy and I'm thinking 3.42 gears would be nice with that unit. The Volvo M45 w/Laycock OD unit could be mounted to a Chev Bell housing using a 1/4" adapter plate or if you know a good aluminum welder. Right now I'm running 3.31's for Road Performance; but man it's just plane too costly getting around today. My Old Volvo's are long gone but I've still got them trannys :o))
