I'm feeling mechanically challenged. Can someone explain to me how to remove the lock/latch from my 69 Camaro glove box door? Thanks

z28Doug,

If you have the key, open the door and insert the key turning it to the locked position. Looking on the side of the lock mechanism you'll see a small hole {square I think} into which you can insert a small screw driver or paper clip and depress a single pin which will then allow you to slide the “guts” out of the front of the lock. Once this is done you’ll see that outer piece of the lock is inserted from the back of the door and held in place with a threaded nut type arrangement.

If you don’t have the key, it is a similar operation. You’ll be inserting a pin into an opening on the side of the lock housing, but I believe it’s a smaller hole on the opposite side of the lock than the one if you have the key. In this case you’ll need to push in each of the pins {3 or 4} one at a time as you slowly withdraw the guts to the lock.

These details are a little old in my mind as it was a year ago that I did mine but I think this will help you get it done. I also removed my entire door when I did the lock replacement so I could work on it under good light on a workbench.

Good luck!

Doug

Thanks for the help. I do have the key so that should make it a little easier. Taking the door off is a good idea too!!
