View Full Version : AM radio light Gary L Apr 20th, 08, 06:22 AM The light for my radio has become unplugged and I can't remember where the hole is. Anyone have a picture or a location? Thanks. drdave69 Apr 21st, 08, 08:54 AM The bulb and socket go into a hole on the top chasis. Gary L Apr 21st, 08, 01:50 PM Thanks dave. Does the radio need to be out? Is the hole centered or to one side, just in case I need to do it by feel? alanrw Apr 21st, 08, 03:23 PM Gary, try this link. I am assuming the white wire is the light bulb. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-70-71-Camaro-Chevelle-GTO-El-Camino-Radio_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38644QQihZ011QQit emZ320240146727QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW alan Gary L Apr 21st, 08, 08:38 PM Alan, my radio looks similar, but the wire is in the harness. ?????? drdave69 Apr 22nd, 08, 07:01 AM Gary, that link to the one on peepay is correct for a 1969. The illumination wire and bulb is configured just like that one. Go ahead and pull your radio out so you can determine what you have. They are easy to remove/install. Gary L Apr 22nd, 08, 08:14 AM Any idea what the loose wire with a bulb is for? All other lights seem to be working. I will remove the radio and check. DjD Apr 22nd, 08, 08:21 AM How about your heater/fan controls. It's right there next to the radio. Gary L Apr 22nd, 08, 08:31 PM Good guess Dennis. Thanks, but that one is in place. This bulb/socket is a single wire that grounds to metal with the prongs around the lamp base. I can't find that one in the AIM. zigman Apr 23rd, 08, 04:34 PM Good guess Dennis. Thanks, but that one is in place. This bulb/socket is a single wire that grounds to metal with the prongs around the lamp base. I can't find that one in the AIM. hmmm , maybe the ashtray light ? Gary L Apr 23rd, 08, 04:39 PM No ash tray light. That was an optical fiber that came off of the tach or speedo light. Man this is killing me. The wire is part of the wiring harness. It has to plug into a metal hole because of he way it grounds. zigman Apr 23rd, 08, 04:43 PM No ash tray light. That was an optical fiber that came off of the tach or speedo light. Gary L Apr 23rd, 08, 04:48 PM Not for the console. It uses 4 smaller lights. I need to look closer. Maybe it was bundled in after-market for something. alanrw Apr 23rd, 08, 07:38 PM Gary, what doesn't light up at night? Is it indeed the radio that stays black? alan Gary L Apr 23rd, 08, 09:39 PM Actually I can't find anything that does not light up. I assumed it was the radio light at first because of the type of connector and I did not verify the radio did not light. I assumed too much. It will reach to the back of the radio or the top but not much further. Maybe it was added to the harness and taped up for an after-market radio at one time in the past. There is nothing like it shown in the AIM wiring either. I sure would like to settle it before reinstalling the radio. More room that way. By the way, the radio is "91APB" the exact Camaro radio you pointed to in an earlier link. alanrw Apr 23rd, 08, 09:49 PM Is the light slaved to the door jamb switch or it goes on with the headlights? If it is slaved to the jamb switch, aux lighting system residual? alan RamAirDave Apr 23rd, 08, 09:56 PM I dont remember exactly, but doesnt the heater control use two lights? What color is the wire? Gary L Apr 23rd, 08, 10:14 PM The light comes on with the HL switch. It is a single black wire. Nothing else with a metal back to plug into. Seems like a way GM would not use to ground. Gary L Apr 24th, 08, 07:31 PM I found it. It was an after-market connection for a radio I would bet. It was taped up pretty good.:o alanrw Apr 24th, 08, 07:55 PM I found it. It was an after-market connection for a radio I would bet. It was taped up pretty good.:o The suspense was killing me!!!!!! :beers::beers: alan Gary L Apr 24th, 08, 08:26 PM awwww, I was just testing you guys. I did that kind of crap when I was a kid. I should have been wise to it. parkbrau Apr 25th, 08, 06:32 AM I did that kind of crap when I was a kid. I should have been wise to it. Tell me about it.
