what is a easy way to check factory style console mounted fuel gauge , getting power , full of gas , gauge on empty ? :confused:

Easiest way is to click "Electrical and wiring" then the "Electrical Basics" sticky, then find either of 2 threads on troubleshooting the fuel gauge circuit.

There is a connector right under the trunk lock. 2 wires, one is 12V to the license bulb, the other is to the fuel tank sender. Disconnect the fuel tank sender from the connector. The gauge should go to full with ignition key on. Now take a jumper wire and touch one end to a good ground and the other to the fuel GAUGE side of the wiring. The gauge should go to empty. If that doesn't check out (the gauge goes to empty without touching it to ground), it could be that the tan wire from the gauge to the back of the car is chaffed and grounding out somewhere along it's path from the gauge to the trunk connector. If that wire checks ok, then you have to check the wire from the trunk connector to the sender to make sure it isn't grounding out.

If the tank is full, one end of an ohm meter to ground and the other end to the tank side of the connector should read like 90 ohms if full. 0 ohms if empty.

Quick way to check this is to disconnect both sides of the tan wire (gauge and rear connector) and then see if you have continuity from one end of the tan wire to ground. If you do, the wire is going to ground somewhere along it's path.
