I am in the process of restoring my 68 Camaro and the current hood on it has hood pins. I have never really liked the pins and since I am going to have the car painted while I am doing everything else ( It is in several peaces now in my garage ) was wondering if there is anything I can do to get rid of the holes and make the hood look orginal again or if I will have to buy a new hood, I hope not my budget is getting thin at this point! Probally a stupid question but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is no major to rebuild the holes with a mig..
can use small patches or simply fill in the same manner when u have the heat up too hih and blow a big hole
Fill slow...build around the edges letting cool...grind off refill any hollows as if using filler, and block off with orbital sander...

Shane, you didn't mention if yours is a flat hood, an SS hood or a cowl hood, but stock flat hoods generally go very cheap on eBay. Shipping might be a different story, depending how far it has to travel. I seem to recall members on this forum offering them up for free from time to time.

Thanks for the response guys I kinda figured you could fill in the holes but glad to hear from someone who has done this before. it is a SS hood that I believe to be orginal to the car so I will try to save it.
:hurray:
Thanks a lot,

Still working on the car and before I went through the trouble of welding on the hood was just wondering if hood pins were an option on the SS big block cars either factory or dealer installed? The look of the hood pins is kinda growing on me now I am thinking about keeping them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

No first gen camaro had hood pins from the factory......real pacers (both Indy and NASCAR) may have had them added as part of the modification, not sure, but none from the factory.
Dealer could have done almost anything....as could have an early owner.

I always thought the 'real' hood pin applications were only used with fiberglass hoods since there were no hood hinges, latches, etc. These were all aftermarket or all-out racing applications, nothing that would have come from the factory.
