: Leaking Kickdown Cable Connection

I just finished installing a new 355 and stall converter in my 69 RS. After I shut the car off after returning from it's maiden voyage, I discovered ATF fluid dripping from where the kickdown cable connects to the transmission. I had put about 2 ½ gallons in the transmission, so I suspected the transmission was too full. I restarted the car and checked the level while idling in Park. The level is about ¼ inch above full. The leak quit after I shut the car off.

So, I guess my question is this – Is the kickdown cable connection above the normal ATF level? If so, should I apply a little RTV to the connection, or will it stop leaking on it’s own after I lower the ATF level by ¼ inch?

Thanks as always!!

Both

The 'normal' level is just below the hole for the tube.
I always put a small bead of RTV around the tube end (with the oring) before I insert it.
The end of the tube is commonly distorted slightly and they never seem to seal as good as I would expect without a little help ...

If the tube is leaking, a new O-ring is needed. Or, if the casing is plastic, the cable assembly needs replacing.

Thanks for the info. I sealed the cable with a little RTV and lowered the ATF level a tad, and no more leak!!
