I have the stock AC off my 2000 camaro SS motor and was wondering if I needed to save any of the parts like the brackets if I plan on doing vintage air instead.
LS1 Motor will be in a 68 camaro.

village air probably can accomidate that request of reusing the OEM compressor.
I know Classic Auto Air can.

You can't use the variable displacement compressor with an Vintage Air system. Vintage Air does make a bracket to mount the Sanden SD508 in the stock LS1 compressor location, but it won't clear the stock subframe with most mounts. BRP mounts move the engine up higher and a couple of inches farther forward so you can notch the frame to clear the compressor. Everyone elses mounts put the engine in the stock location or farther back, and you have to put the compressor high on the right. S&P makes a bracket to put the compressor high on the right on the LS1 with Fbody (or Vette) acccessories.
I'm in the middle of installing a Vintage Air GEN4 system in my '68 with Fbody LS1. I got it all (GEN4 kit and S&P bracket/compressor kit) through Frank at gpsuperstore. Still waiting for the S&P stuff to arrive, but went ahead and started on the rest.

Rodder,
Which mounts are you using? I was thinking on going with BRP or should I savwe up the extra dough and get ATS?

I'm using AutoKraft mounts which are pretty much copies of the ATS. Next time I'll go with the ATS mounts. I'm also using an ATS crossmember and clutch hydraulics.

what about headers? Which ones will actually clear a factory steering box?

I'm using the Hooker Supercomps, and had to ding 3 tubes to clear my AGR box. Dunno if they might clear an ATS 670 box.
