: What to spray on car after blasting?

I got my 68 off to the blaster and wondering what I will need to spray the car with when I get it back to keep it from surfast rusting while I do some metal work. I did some searching here and it sounds like most are using DP 90. There were some spots that had surface rust so I am expecting to see some divets in the metal. Can a build primer be shot over the DP 90 when I am ready?
Blaster is using "black Beuety" to blast with. Seen it or used it before?

Absolutely. What ever brand Epoxy you use, make sure you read and follow the p-sheet. As for divets, epoxy is an excellant base for HB or plastic. I usually skim coat any serious roughness in the metal with plastic before HB. HB is great stuff but many put it on too heavy to cover things that should be dealt with by better metal work or with plastic.

Hi sixd8rs

I am in the exact situation that you are. I am finishing up blasting my whole car outside and underneath with Black Beauty. I did the blasting myself ( FUN!FUN!FUN!!). I was recommended to apply Epoxy primer as soon as possible over the metal, and then do the body work, apply more primer after over the filler. etc. Then continue on with the rest of the coatings ( High Build, Blocking, b/C, whatever).
The questions I still have is that how to clean the metal prior to the first spray, Such as ( Grease wax remover, Metal prep etc,).
Also since some of the underneath and firewall may still have a small bit of surface rust in corner, crevices and pits, especially on the underneath, Will Epoxy primer stop the rust.
Should I use something else first before the primer on those areas. I was looking at Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator for the firewall/underneath. Can Epoxy primer go over that and not cause problems?
I will use Southern Polyurethanes Primer.
Just some questions I've thought of that may effect you too.

Thanks
Ray

Thanks to both of you!
Good questions Ray! I spoke to a good friend today who will most likely be doing all the bondo/plastic work. I can handle the metal. I just dont have the talent for the plastic. He did tell me to use a grease wax remover. He was concerned about any lint from the towels I use getting left behind on the metal. So I am stuck figuring out what to use to wipe it off with. Hopefuly someone will chime in on the Rust Encapsulator as well.
Thanks again!

Also when you do wipe it down make sure there is'nt any solvent in those "divots" because when you spray the epoxy over it it will not evaporate cuseing pockets under the epoxy.

Hi sixd8rs

On the cleaning, I also was advised on lint problems from the wiping down from whatever cloth was used to wipe. One post said he blasted it with brake cleaner and then used a shop vac with the brush attachment. Not sure on that one but I am open on any and all ideas. My primer instructions said

"""Never clean metal with lacquer thinner or reducers of any kind. Raw metal of any type is always cleaned best with a waterborne wax and grease remover""

Metel Prep, and than galva prep, Not sure if any of the steel in the 60s was galvanized, but if it was and you do not galvaprep it the primer will not adhere as it should to those areas of galvanizations, better safe than sorry. Follow it up with Epoxy primer. Rust areas need to be attended to prior to coating, the primer will not stop it.
